Role Summary
The Strategic & Credit Risk Officer supports the design, implementation, execution, and oversight of the branch’s credit risk management framework accordingly to established corporate and risk strategies. He / She can also support other EMEA entities such as SMBC EU AG.
The Strategic & Credit Risk Officer sits within the Paris Risk Management Department “RMD”
The role is to support the Paris Head of Risk for maintaining and developing an effective credit risk management framework, including:
Coordinates with and / or challenges other key stakeholders of the credit risk management, including the 1LOD (Front Office, Corporate Research), and the 2LOD (Credit Department, Risk modelling team, Information Team, EMEA / EU RMD colleagues).
Performs a regular credit risk oversight with the purpose of a reporting to local committees / forums held on a monthly / quarterly / biannual basis, but also potentially to EMEA / EU governance
Monitors, analyses and challenges the credit quality and concentration risk of the portfolio, including ESG, based on historical data, other departments credit risk analysis at obligors’ level, with a forward-looking view, taking into account industry trends and possible headwinds in macroeconomics / geopolitical context. That applies for Paris local purposes but also potentially to other EMEA entities such as SMBC EU AG.
Advises on the credit risk sections of the branch’s Risk Appetite, including limits and KRIs and performs a regular monitoring.
Monitors new transactions. For some above a certain threshold, organises a local approval meeting (PLAM) and develops its own opinion, in addition of the FO and Credit Department, to justify a RMD veto, if needed
Participates to the EMEA Product Approval Committees, and analyses products from a credit risk perspective.
Performs a regulatory watch on credit risk and advises and / or implements the necessary actions (update of policies and procedures…) based on best practises.
Synthesizes his / her credit risk oversight in the preparation and drafting of reports to (i) local governance committees or forums and to the ACPR (Internal Control Report ‘RACI’)
Participates to ad hoc tasks, potentially but not only, linked to the Paris transfer to an EU entity.
Maintains the existing framework, but also develops best practices, in the perspective of a becoming a SMBC EU entity, which might fall under the ECB supervision
Experience and knowledge
- Solid and successful experience in corporate credit risk (bank, rating agency…), including its ESG aspects.
- Good knowledge of Corporate Banking products and loan structure (syndication, underwriting, trade finance...)
- Good knowledge of the EBA / EU regulation, supervisor expectations and best market practises.
- Ideally, used to work in an international environment.
Skills
- Solid skills in credit risk analysis, with a good understanding of the underlying businesses, sectoral view, macroeconomics…
- Good skills in data management and in related tools such as Excel (Power BI would be a nice to have).
- Strong skills to draft clear reports, in English, on PowerPoint. That includes the underlying text and conclusion but also presentation, graphs….
- Oral communication and presentation skills (French speaker and fluent in English).
- Ability to collaborate into an international environment with multiple interlocutors.
- Ability to take a step back and have a high-level view.
