Role Summary
Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for a Private Side Advisory & Control Room Analyst / AVP for our Central Compliance Group to join our team.
The role of Private Side Advisory & Control Room Analyst is required to protect SMBC Bank EU AG and its employees from regulatory censure and ensure positive outcomes for its customers and markets by enabling the business to meet its risk preferences and statements relating to compliance risks. It also helps to embed a compliance culture in the firms' day-to-day activities by providing advice, education, monitoring, challenge and reporting.
The key role of the Private Side Advisory & Control Room Analyst is to:
- Provide high quality Compliance support to the business and the firm on all related regulatory matters, in particular for those related to the Control Room;
- Take responsibility for being a Compliance partner regarding regulatory changes;
- Advise the business based on interpretations of regulations and by focusing on practical outcomes and deliverables.
Main candidate requirements:
- Relevant experience of working within the financial services industry. Experience gained in a securities house, broker dealer and/or wholesale banking would be advantageous.
- Good knowledge of German / EU regulatory requirements and financial services / markets.
- Ability to understand and advise on legal text and work with regulations.
Business Area
The Compliance Department liaises with compliance teams throughout the Group to ensure compliance with regards to German / EU matters and the fulfilment of specific tasks under SLAs with EMEA entities. The role-holder supports the Compliance Function and is ultimately a member of the EMEA team and contributes to set the department strategy in line with SMBC / Nikko Tokyo and other relevant SMFG offices while supporting the business’s initiatives.
This role helps to embed and increase the understanding of Japanese regulations and Head Office requirements. Acting as the key liaison point with Japan in relation to global Control Room initiatives. The role is part of the Compliance Private Side Advisory team across all EMEA entities in particular those that engage in or perform activities impacting Control Room activities in managing inside information and conflicts of interest for the firm.
As SMBC EU must demonstrate its own local governance requirements, it cannot solely rely on the respective teams of other SMBC group companies. The role holder must therefore liaise closely with the relevant counterparts and key stakeholders, in the EMEA region in particular.
Position Description
Key responsibilities:
- Act in role of trusted advisor for compliance matters across the relevant product areas in EMEA through specialised regulatory knowledge and interpretation of the rules.
- Manage the reporting processes internally and to SMBC BI (as regional Head Office), as well as to SMBC / Nikko Tokyo Office and manage key communications within SMBC Group.
- Along with the rest of the team design training material and train all staff on required Compliance and Conduct materials, including the development of relevant materials.
- Involve in the development and implementation of new Compliance policies and/or update and maintain existing policies based on local rules and interpretations.
- Contribute and draft responses to internal and external regulatory exams / audits.
- Monitor appropriate information barriers and insider trading prevention procedures.
- Liaise with SMBC Group companies on relevant Compliance topics including Conflicts of Interest and information handling.
- Review, investigate and assess / conclude on potential breaches and related reporting.
- Provide appropriate MI for areas of primary responsibility and as needed for other external reports or information gathering exercises.
- Monitor the German and EU regulatory developments, identifying new regulations that impact the business and recommend appropriate action to implement as necessary; and
- Provide compliance services and advice to other offices in SMBC EU Group.
