In Paris, SMBC Group has developed an expertise in Project Finance and Acquisition Finance across the infrastructure asset class, covering digital infrastructure (fibre networks, data centres), energy (renewables and new energies), clean mobility, and traditional transport and social infrastructure. SMBC Group also actively supports its clients in their energy transition journey with a strong focus on ESG values.

The Front Office Project Finance team, which comprises 15 professionals, is looking for a new analyst intern for a 6-month period starting in January 2026.

Role Summary

As an intern in the Front Office Project Finance team, you will:

  • Support the origination and execution of Project Finance arranging mandates for Project Finance transactions in the wider "infrastructure” sector including projects in renewable and new energies, digital infrastructure, clean mobility and transport/social infrastructure sectors in the EMEA region and occasionally support on advisory mandates.
  • Conduct risk and sectorial analysis of new projects, financial analysis of counterparties (e.g., corporate or industrial sponsors, public entities).
  • Write internal credit applications in English.
  • Analyse and run complex Excel financial models.
  • Conduct strategic watch (e.g., daily press reviews, research topics on key sectors or technologies) and develop sector expertise.
  • Assist with internal reporting. 

 

Profile

 

  • End-of-studies student or gap year (“année de césure”) / 2nd year student
  • With interest in structured finance specially in the infrastructure, telecom and/or energy sectors.
  • Prior internship experience, ideally in the banking industry or in the financial / audit sector is welcome.

Skills Valued

  • Fluent in English and French (written and spoken)
