We're looking for a Payroll & Tax Expert (Fixed-Term Contract) for our Human Resources Department to join our team.

 

This is a 1 year temporary position based in Paris, created to provide operational payroll support while the permanent Payroll, Tax & Benefits Expert is dedicated to the Payroll Transformation Project (Horizon). 

The role offers a unique opportunity to gain broad exposure to payroll, tax, benefits, and HR administration within an international banking environment while working closely with experienced HR professionals and key stakeholders across the organisation.

 

About this role

The Human Resources Department supports the full employee lifecycle across SMBC, including payroll, benefits, recruitment, employee relations, talent management, and HR operations. This role is critical to ensuring the continuity of payroll and HR administration services for the Paris branch, maintaining a high-quality employee experience and compliance with local regulations and internal policies.

 

In this role you will be responsabile for:

  • Collecting, verifying, and preparing monthly payroll data for submission to the external payroll provider
  • Reviewing payroll outputs, identifying discrepancies, and supporting payroll validation processes
  • Managing day-to-day payroll administration activities, including absences, employee data changes, benefits administration, and leaver processes
  • Acting as a first point of contact for employees and managers regarding payroll, benefits, and absence-related queries
  • Liaising with external payroll and benefits providers while maintaining accurate employee records and data integrity
  • Supporting payroll reporting, reconciliations, and HR administration activities as required
  • Ensuring compliance with payroll procedures, internal controls, and applicable legal and regulatory requirements, while escalating complex matters when appropriate

 

The anticipated salary range for this role is €40,000 - €50,000, with the final offer determined based on the candidate’s skills, experience, role scope, location, and relevant market factors. In addition to base salary, the role may be eligible for a competitive benefits package.

Profile Description

For you to suceed in this role

  • Previous experience in payroll administration or HR operations, ideally using SuccessFactors and ADP
  • Good understanding of French payroll processes, employee administration, and payroll compliance requirements
  • HR degree or equivalent qualification
  • Professional working proficiency in English and fluency in French
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel

Desirable

  • Experience working with expatriate payroll, international tax, social security, or mobility-related payroll matters
  • Previous experience within the banking, financial services, or another regulated environment
  • Exposure to payroll process improvement, automation, or HR transformation initiatives
  • Familiarity with HR reporting, payroll reconciliations, and data quality controls within HR systems
