We're looking for a Director, FX & Risk Solutions for our FX & Derivatives Department to join our team in Paris.

This role offers the opportunity to lead the development of SMBC’s Corporate Risk Solutions franchise across France, Belgium, Luxembourg and other European markets. You will originate, structure, price and execute interest rate derivative solutions for major corporate clients and financial institutions, while strengthening collaboration across FX, Treasury, Debt Capital Markets and other product teams. The position combines senior client coverage, technical derivatives expertise, commercial leadership and team development within an international platform.

 

About this role

The FX & Derivatives Department provides hedging and risk management solutions to corporate and institutional clients across Europe. This role will drive the growth of the interest rate derivatives business, develop senior client relationships and coordinate cross-border execution across SMBC entities in the EEA, the UK and the US.

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Originating and executing interest rate derivative and associated risk management solutions for corporate clients and financial institutions, with a particular focus on France, Belgium and Luxembourg
  • Developing senior relationships with Corporate Treasurers, CFOs, project advisers and other key decision-makers to identify hedging needs and convert opportunities into transactions
  • Structuring, modelling and pricing derivative transactions in partnership with Trading, including the application of credit simulation and xVA methodologies
  • Expanding cross-selling opportunities across FX, Treasury, FIST, DCM and other relevant product areas
  • Coordinating credit, legal, KYC, compliance and operational workstreams, including credit applications and the negotiation of derivative and collateral documentation
  • Supporting business strategy, revenue delivery and the continued development of SMBC’s Corporate Risk Solutions capabilities across Europe
  • Supervising, coaching and developing junior team members while promoting consistent execution standards across Paris, Frankfurt and the wider SMBC platform

The anticipated salary range for this role is €172,000 - €200,000, with the final offer determined based on the candidate’s skills, experience, role scope, location, and relevant market factors. In addition to base salary, the role may be eligible for a discretionary incentive award and a competitive benefits package, including core benefits such as pension provision.

Profile Description

 

For you to succeed in this role

  • More than 10 years of relevant experience in interest rate derivatives, corporate risk solutions, markets sales or a closely related client-facing role
  • Established relationships with major European corporate clients, ideally including CAC 40 and/or DAX 40 companies, at Head of Treasury, Group Treasurer or CFO level
  • Strong technical knowledge of interest rate derivative structuring, modelling, discounting, pricing and potential exposure methodologies
  • Practical knowledge of CVA, FVA and other xVA components, together with derivative master agreements, collateral documentation and trade confirmations
  • Bachelor’s degree, ideally a Master’s degree, in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Business or a related discipline, with the required knowledge and competence to operate within a MiFID-regulated environment

  • A collaborative and results-driven approach, with the ability to develop junior colleagues and coordinate effectively across cultures, products and jurisdictions

 

Desirable

  • Fluency in French and/or German
  • Experience executing or remotely booking derivatives across EEA, UK and US entities
  • Knowledge of UK, European and US regulatory requirements applicable to derivatives activities, including MiFID, FCA and Dodd-Frank requirements
  • Experience supporting derivatives execution for Project Finance transactions and broader cross-product risk management solutions
