Why join our Global Financial Institutions Group
The Global Financial Institutions Group team is looking for a new intern to join the team for a 6-month period starting in January 2026.
This role will vastly broaden your knowledge and understanding of Corporate and Investment banking products as GFIG cover all aspects of relationship management for financial clients of SMBC group. The model under which GFIG operates is based upon the relationships and knowledge of its senior bankers. GFIG is a global department with offices in Tokyo, New York, Sydney, London and Frankfurt among others, in addition to Paris.
GFIG (London) is made up of four teams, Banks, Non-Bank FIs, Structuring and Analytics and Planning & KYC.
Role Summary
- As an intern in the Front Office GFIG team, you will have interactions with GFIG in other regions, Colleagues in Nikko, Treasury, Loan Capital Markets (Special Projects, Origination, Distribution, Execution and Loan Agency), Legal, and Credit Department as well as other related front office teams, in particular leveraged finance team and structured products team.
- Support the coverage bankers within GFIG covering both NBFI and Banks customers.
- Assist the GFIG credit team in preparation of credit applications, marketing comments, and other analysis.
- Assist in preparing team marketing materials, pitch-books and reports, to ensure successful promotion of the team’s activities both internally and externally.
- Assist market research on client activities.
- Assist in planning and KYC activities including but not limited to internal presentations and reports.
- Attend internal meetings to gain information.
Profile
- Second part of gap year (“année de césure”) or end-of-studies student at Masters Level.
- Strong motivation and ability to work in an international and multicultural environment : regular interaction with teams in London
- Good organisational skills, rigour and reliability, autonomy and initiative, summarising and analytical skills, open-mindedness.
- Strong motivation and ability to work in a team and under tight deadlines;
- Interest in structured finance and in the banking and financial sector;
- Prior internship experience, ideally in the banking industry or in the financial sector;
Skills valued
- Fluent in English and French (written and spoken)
- Ability to take initiative and work with autonomy
- Good knowledge of financial analysis
- Proficiency in MS Office tools (Excel, PPT, Word)
- Analytical skills with specific ability tocommunicate concepts and ideas concisely
- Ability to work under tight deadlines in afast-paced environment
