Role Summary

Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for a Credit Analyst - Director (f/m/d) for our Credit Department to join our team. 

The Job Holder is responsible for assessing, monitoring, and managing credit exposure for transactions booked by the bank.
•    Analyzing the credit risk associated with transactions originated by the front office departments (covering both lending and derivatives transactions among others)
•    Elaborating and presenting a recommendation to the Executive Board (under the Bank’s governance) for decision.
•    Organizing and planning credit reviews of credit exposure extended by the bank in compliance with the Bank’s processes, policies, and procedures
•    Monitoring performance of loans and other products in line with policies and procedures
•    Preparation of reports as per internal policies and procedures to Line Manager and Management
•    Liaising with Front Offices, other Credit Departments, and departments (Treasury, F&C, Planning Depts)
•    Contributing to the overall credit risk management framework and processes in particular in relation to strategy and risk appetite setting as well as capital management.
•    Participating and contributing internal, external audits and regulatory interactions.

The anticipated salary range for this role is €92,000-€138,000 with the final offer determined based on the candidate’s skills, experience, role scope, location, and relevant market factors. In addition to base salary, the role may be eligible for a discretionary incentive award and a competitive benefits package, including core benefits such as pension provision.

Business Area

The Job Holder is appointed as a senior Credit Analyst within the Credit Department at SMBC Bank EU AG, reporting to the Head of Credit in order to comply with the German Banking Act and MaRisk requirements as well as SMBC global PPMs in relation to transactions with the bank’s customers.

Position Description

•    Critically and independently analyze credit applications and their contents submitted by Front Offices in accordance with the application and approval policies and procedures of the bank
•    Prepare written, precise summaries including reasoned recommendations in a standardized format for presentation to the Executive Board or delegated authority
•    Timely management of credit applications, policies and procedures, and other reporting matters.

 Assist the Head of Credit in all its duties and responsibilities
•    Report material matters identified to the appropriate governance structures (for example, Special Credit Review, Credit and Prudential Risk Committees)
•    Assist in the preparation and review of internal policies and procedures related to credit matters and under the responsibility of CD
•    Assist Front Office and other departments in ensuring compliance with procedures and systems of the Bank.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications

•    Solid experience in credit analysis (5-10 years) in the field of corporate banking and corporate banking products.
•    Good knowledge of credit risk management requirements and regulations both at European and German level (EBA, ECB, MaRisk KWG).
•    Good understanding and knowledge of SMBC group credit risk management requirements and rules.
•    Strong numerical and financial analysis skills across products offered by the bank.
•    Good understanding of global economics and sectors in order to identify opportunities and threats to existing and potential transactions.
•    Inquisitive nature and a desire to gain knowledge and experience across product and sector types and the bank’s various systems.
•    Degree level education and Fluency in written English and German (if possible).
•    Strong communications skills and culture awareness.
