Role Summary

The Product Control department in SMBC EU AG is responsible for ensuring the accurate financial reporting related to the bank’s trading activities. The Product Controller supports the Head of Management Reporting and Product Control as well as the Head of Finance in various areas, such as overseeing daily P&L and balance sheet and valuation & pricing controls, acting as key contact between front office and F&C, reporting to external and internal stakeholders as well working on project tasks or year-end activities.

Business Area

The SMBC EU F&C department is responsible for all finance functions of the bank. It is divided in five teams:

• Accounting & Reporting
• Management Reporting & Product Control
• Tax
• Regulatory Reporting
• Finance Change

Position Description

• Produce, monitor and validate daily P&L including commentary on P&L drivers and variance analysis
• Own the balance sheet substantiation process for trading book positions and ensure accurate valuation and reconciliation
• Monitor, investigate and explain P&L discrepancies and resolve breaks
• Independently verify asset prices through external market data provider
• Attend and support valuation control forums
• Analyse valuation adjustments, funding charges and fees
• Monitor the effectiveness of hedging products
• Perform market conformity checks
• Act as a key contact for Front Office and provide product and desks performance overviews
• Collaborate and build a close relationship with Treasury, Risk Management and Operations
• Support month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes
• Drive continuous improvement in reporting processes through automation, data analytics and workflow enhancements
• Work on the implementation of new processes and policies
• Act as a key contact for internal and external auditors for questions around trading book positions and P&L
• Work closely with the accounting team on term end tasks to ensure accurate reporting of trading book positions.
• Any other tasks assigned by Head of Management Reporting & Product Control or Head of Finance

Skills

• Several years’ experience in a controlling / finance role within a financial institution, ideally in an investment bank
• Be able to understand complex concepts, challenge them and provide explanations in a clear and precise way
• Strong analytical, numerical and IT skills
• Strong understanding of financial products and investment banking
• Expertise in accounting, financial reporting (IFRS and HGB) and valuation
• Proven track record in building relationships (both internal and external) as well as demonstrating and promoting team spirit
• Be able to work independently
• Demonstration of SMBC values

English: business fluent

Education

Educated to Bachelors / master’s level; any professional qualification is considered as a plus
