Account Manager, Leveraged Finance, Portfolio Management
Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for an Account Manager for our Leveraged Finance, Portfolio Management Group in Specialised Products Department to join our team.
Based in Paris, this role is part of the Portfolio Management Team, where the overall team of 45 across London, Dublin, Frankfurt and Paris, manage SPD’s c$7.8Bn+ portfolio of c180+ leveraged loans. The primary objective is to proactively manage a portfolio of European Leveraged Finance Borrowers with on balance sheet and off balance sheet (programme) exposure reporting into a Sub Team Leader / Team Leader, Group Head and SPD Management.
In summary, the key parts of the role are:
- To ensure the effective, proactive management of the European Leveraged Finance Portfolio to manage the associated credit risks and ensure any material adverse developments are reported in a timely manner to Line Manager, Senior / SPD Management and Credit Department.
- To allow for the consistent, clear, open and timely reporting of Portfolio Data to the various key stakeholders including Line Manager, SPD Management, Credit Department, and Tokyo Head Office with strong emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail.
- To provide support and work closely with Line Manager, VPs/Directors and London based Portfolio Management team, to identify / execute new business opportunities arising from the existing EU based portfolio to help grow the portfolio and contribute to the overall Department’s Leveraged Finance Income Budget
Key Candidate Requirements:
- Knowledge and understanding of European Leveraged Finance market including trends and developments
- Strong credit / risk analysis skills gained through exposure to European leveraged finance transactions
- Ability to analyse / interpret Audited/Unaudited Historic Financial Statements, Financial Due Diligence, forward looking financial data (Budgets. Forecasts, Projections etc.) and other financial information. Cash Flow modelling skills with sound knowledge for Excel
- Strong Communication Skills - with both internal and external stakeholders - and both written and verbal to enable clear and concise written and verbal presentation of Leveraged Finance transactions.
Business Area
Based in Paris, this role is part of the Portfolio Management Team within Origination Group 2 (“OG2”) of Specialised Products Department where the overall OG2 team across London, Dublin, Frankfurt and Paris of 45 manage SPD’s c$7.8Bn+ portfolio of c180+ leveraged loans.
Our Leveraged Finance Team in Paris, currently consists of 17 people (12 Origination and 5 Portfolio Management).
Position Description
- Part of a Team of up to 10 people - 7 Account Officers, 2 Sub Team Leaders and 1 Team Leader based across London (6), Paris (3) and Frankfurt (1).
- Working closely with a Sub Team Leader, proactively manage a portfolio of Leveraged Loans including: i) ongoing analysis of a Borrower’s financial performance; ii) the preparation of required Monitoring Reports, iii) regular reporting to Sub Team Leader, Team Leader, Group Head, SPD Management and Credit Department on Borrower’s performance; iv) assigning / reviewing Borrower internal ratings at least annually; and v) analysis / interpretation of Bank’s Cash Flow Model.
- Working with the London based Portfolio Management team, responsibility for Developing / Maintaining Relationships with Company Mgt through working closely with the Team Leader, Sub Team Leader, and VPs on the team to i) ensure the team are up to date with developments at the Company, ii) to drive new business opportunities from the portfolio, and iii) to provide information to clients on SMFG products and services, including investment products.
- Ongoing liaison with Origination & Sponsor Coverage team on Portfolio Mining opportunities (linking in to the above) to drive new business opportunities arising from the portfolio.
- Conducting in depth financial / credit analysis of transactions and the preparation of Credit submissions for i) new transactions; ii) amendments / waivers on existing allocated portfolio accounts; and iii) add-on / re-financing opportunities on existing allocated portfolio accounts.
- Liaison with all Back and Middle Office teams (Limit Control, Loans Admin, Static Data, KYC etc) to ensure satisfaction of all internal booking and operational requirements necessary to successfully book existing and new loan transactions. Building appropriate internal networks as required
- Compliance with all regulatory and internal policies and procedures, regulations and guidelines
