Translates Japanese investment research authored in Tokyo into English Broad range of industry knowledge and several years of experience Review/edit translated research for accuracy/consistency, and for readability |
Section 3 – Background |
The English translation team in the London Research Production Department is responsible for translating (into English), editing, reviewing and approving investment research prepared in Japanese by analysts in Tokyo for global distribution to sales and investors. It works closely with the other production teams (Tokyo, New York) and the analysts (Tokyo) to enhance research quality and ensure compliance with regulations pertaining to research and communications with the public. The role, as part of the London English translation team, is to provide the above services in the London time zone. The Editor/Translator is responsible for producing high‐quality translations, editing others' work, and reviewing reports and other materials for accuracy with the source Japanese. A key part of this is improving the readability and fluency of reports, especially titles. The editor / translator also assists with the Sentience AI translation tool, providing feedback and performing post-translation alignment |

The role primarily interacts with other members of the English translation team in London, as well as New York and Tokyo, and the analyst teams in Tokyo Key stakeholders are Production team members in Tokyo, London and New York (global research production), analyst/assistant teams in Tokyo

Section 5 – Accountabilities & Responsibilities |
Translate equities and other research (macro, strategy, quants, tech analysis, fixed income) from Japanese into English at the industry rate Review translated research for accuracy/consistency with the source Japanese Edit translated research for readability and propose impactful titles for important reports Format/adjust document layout using Microsoft Word and PowerPoint Coordinate production of long reports split among translators Work closely with analysts and other production teams to facilitate this Use internal workflow system and Sentience AI translation tool Provide feedback and perform post-translation alignment for the Sentience AI translation tool Has the authority to make decisions on translation quality (fidelity with source, appropriateness of expression, etc) Responsible for managing their time and workload |

Translation: Ability to translate full range of research (all types, industries) quickly, fluently and accurately in line with industry norms Editing/review: Ability to review research quickly and effectively for accuracy and overall quality (consistency, presentation), provide value-add through punchier titles than the Japanese original Securities/finance: Solid understanding of Japanese equities/industries, capital markets, valuation, macroeconomics, and financial accounting Japanese: Advanced reading comprehension, ability to discuss/resolve research issues in Japanese Interpersonal & Communication skills: Professional demeanor under pressure, ability to communicate quickly and effectively with counterparts and analysts/assistants in other regions, including in Japanese Computer skills: Proficiency in Word and PowerPoint, familiarity with Excel and PDF tools Time management: Works efficiently and professionally under tight and competing deadlines.
