Section 2 – Role Overview

 

  • Produces Corporate IG and HY Credit analysis and strategy materials to support the marketing efforts of the Fixed Income and DCM teams to internal and external clients.
  • Provides credit strategy and single name analysis in Corporates to support intelligent risk taking across Developed and Emerging Market Credit

 

Section 3 – Background and Key Stakeholders in the Role

 

The Fixed Income team, under Global markets, must manage the credit risk inherent in our inventory in their daily operations. We must also lead with content in our client coverage. Specifically:

  • The Fixed Income (FI) team distributes and trades Credit, EM and Rates products with the clients of CMLtd and holds inventory in EMEA hard currency debt

Furthermore, the DCM team, including Debt Syndicate, require support from a thematic corporate credit analyst, also adept in single-name analysis, to strengthen our marketing proposition to borrower clients.

 

For this reason, this role holder will have a dual reporting line in to both departments.

 

Section 4 – Scale, Responsibility and Autonomy in the Role:

  • The scale of the role primarily involves liaising with internal stakeholders across CM Ltd. to aid with revenue generation in a risk-tolerant manner. 
  • Responsibility includes acting as a spokesperson for communicating CM Ltd. Credit market strategy to external clients.
  • A high level of autonomy is granted, given the role-holder’s knowledge, skills, expertise, and qualifications. This is matched by a high level of responsibility for communicating activity and results to the respective primary stakeholders.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Section 5 – Key Role Functions:

  • Conducts thematic and fundamental corporate credit analysis and publishes desk-driven strategy notes to both our internal and external clients. Focuses on factors that influence Corporate Credit markets such earnings, issuance, equity markets, broader fixed income markets, as appropriate.
  • Aids EMEA FI trading platform revenue generation and loss avoidance by delivering corporate credit-focused insights in face-to-face communications with traders and sales. Assists corporate traders to smartly position the trading books based on single name credit insights.
  • Supports the DCM and Debt Syndicate teams in the delivery of high value-added Corporate Credit strategy insights, views and ideas in published notes and delivers presentations in face-to-face meetings with corporate and institutional clients towards developing deep end-user client relationships.
  • Engages with Corporate traders and other strategists, economists, and analysts, globally, to comprehend themes and generate focused market strategy ideas of interest to corporate and institutional clients in the EMEA region.
  • Designs and executes a marketing plan to personally deliver corporate credit market strategy presentations to fixed income clients and client prospects, globally, in support of the EMEA FI trading platform.
  • Develops and personally delivers Credit strategy insights to fixed income issuers in support of DCM’s marketing efforts, as needed. Presents insights to the DCM team, as requested.
  • Ensures the efficient delivery of cross-platform insight communications to internal and external clients.
  • Ensures compliance standards are adhered to for external client communications, to uphold SMBC’s integrity and reputation, while delivering high value-added insights across the spectrum of communication channels.
  • Undertakes professional development to remain abreast of market developments.

 

Section 6 – Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of financial markets experience within a significant financial institution in a professional sell-side capacity. Buy-side experience is also interesting.
  • Detailed understanding of corporate credit, economics, financial markets more broadly
  • Expertise in Corporate sector regulations and structuring, importantly a good understanding of the Corporate Hybrid sector
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, confident executive presence, and an entrepreneurial mindset. Ability to present complex ideas in an easy-to-understand manner to a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to quickly assimilate information and make recommendations swiftly in a face paced financial market environment.
  • Advanced Bloomberg and Microsoft Office user skills.
