 Purpose of Job

The jobholder is a change manager to lead any types of projects arisen in Credit Department where the bank’s credit policies and rules are executed through credit and sustainability risk assessment process. This position is a driver, coordinator and/or executor of projects by providing analysis, design, and management of business requirements for the successful project implementation. This position supports the department managements to respond to the bank’s business strategy together with global stakeholders in the bank in growing regulatory landscape.

 

Background

CD is the 2nd line of defence function of the Bank’s Credit and Sustainability Risk Management. In this regards, CPG shares the responsibilities with Credit Supervision Group (CSG) to establish a robust foundation for credit risk management for EMEA operations as well as for SMBC Group companies: a) overseeing activities governed by the Bank’s Credit Risk Policy and Rules to identify and assess risks in line with the bank's risk management framework, b) contributing establishing new framework in response to regulatory or business requirements c) reviewing existing management framework to improve operational soundness, and d) monitoring and reporting overall activities to the Risk Management functions of SMBC, SMBC BI and Bank EU.

 

Facts / Scale

The role maintains the grip over the following business activities, required prompt and accurate response to manage stakeholders' expectations effectively in accordance with its responsibilities.

  • Credit assessment and management activities associated 4000 obligors and 7000 applications annually, asset size of USD160bil (03/2023), of 27 offices in EMEA regions and SMBC branches/ SMBC group subsidiaries globally.
  • Be the centre of knowledge for over 70 types of Bank’s Credit and Sustainability Risk related policies and rules. Guide and oversee 1st and 2ne line of defence operations to ensure consistent application of rules.  
  • Main communication for day to day business is with:
    • Head office functions and Front Offices in London and continential offices
    • Credit and Investment Planning Department (Tokyo)
    • Strategic Planning Department of Global Banking Unit (Tokyo)
    • Financial Accounting Department (Tokyo)
    • Risk Management Department (all regions of SMBC Group network) 
    • Credit Department (all regions of SMBC Group network)
    • Front Offices in Americas, APAC, East Asia and Japan.
    • Capital Market (London and New York)
  • Level of the stakeholders are up to Managing Director depending on a nature of an issue

 

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

Change management

  • Manage and implement a strategy (project) of the department and/or EMEA and/or the Group through end-to-end project life cycle
  • Assist project sponsors (managing directors of department) or other team members to initiate and drive their projects for successful implementation
  • Create plans or initiatives acknowledging all aspects of change by providing analysis and suggestions.
  • Draw new realistic work process for the planned change and implement it.
  • Look for improvements’ opportunities (effectiveness and efficiency point of view) in end-to-end credit process, implement the ideas into practice by negotiating and collaborating for any necessary resources and changes with stakeholders.
  • Any tasks required for the Change Management team.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications

 

  • Demonstrated knowledge in wholesale banking process from origination to drawdown in middle to back-office operations
  • Demonstrated knowledge in governance structure and risk management topics required to financial institutions by European regulators and how it is practiced in an organization.
  • Demonstrated change management skill sets in cross departmental projects
  • Experience implementing changes to business process, technologies and systems ideally in global environment.
  • Experience in creating data sets from various data sources using SQL/ dashboard software by decoding RDB table design documents
  • Confident to keep up changing targets in credit and sustainability risk regulatory landscape
  • Know how to win a team

This is a generalist position for a person who has a strong focus on execution (putting ideas into practice).

Technical skills:

SQL, dashboard software, Microsoft suite,

 

  • Project Management qualification is advantage
  • Business level Japanese language skill is an advantage
  • Understand Japan’s FSA requirements is plus
  • Marketing knowledge is plus
