Role Summary
We’re looking for a Director – Corporate Banking for our Business Promotion Department Milan to join our team!
Business Area
This is a high-impact role at the heart of SMBC’s growth strategy in Italy, offering direct client ownership and the opportunity to shape strategic banking relationships.
You’ll work in a dynamic, international environment with exposure to complex transactions and cross-border collaboration.
Position Description
In this role you will:
- Independently manage and grow a portfolio of large Italian corporate clients.
- Drive revenue generation through cross-selling and strategic client development.
- Act as first line of defence for credit and non-financial risks.
For you to succeed in the role, you’ll need to have:
- 8+ years of experience in Corporate Banking with strong credit and client management skills.
- Proven ability to manage complex transactions and stakeholder relationships.
- Fluency in Italian and English, with excellent communication and analytical skills.
About this role:
The Business Promotion Department Milan leads SMBC’s Corporate Banking efforts in Italy, focusing on large corporates and contributing to the bank’s broader EMEA strategy. This role supports the department’s growth by managing key client relationships, originating new business, and ensuring risk and compliance standards are met.
Our role will allow you to:
- Collaborate with senior stakeholders across SMBC’s global network, including Structured Finance, Global Markets, and Risk.
- Build trusted relationships with clients, legal advisors, consultants, and institutional partners.
- Mentor junior colleagues and contribute to the development of the Milan Branch team.
What will you bring?
- Extensive experience in Corporate Banking, ideally with Italian or European large corporates.
- Strong understanding of credit documentation (e.g. LMA, ISDA) and regulatory frameworks.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple stakeholders, and deliver results.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of ESG/Sustainable Finance topics.
- Familiarity with SMBC systems (e.g. GBR, Accord, Themis).
- Experience in cross-border transactions and Investment Banking collaboration.
