Role Summary
Is the next step in your career at SMBC? We’re looking for an Associate Project Finance for our Structured Finance Department to join our team in Milan!
This role gives you the opportunity to work on high‑profile structured finance transactions across Italy’s energy, infrastructure, and TMT sectors. You will collaborate closely with senior deal teams and EMEA specialists, developing strong technical, analytical, and client-facing skills.

Position Description
Responsibilities
- Supporting the origination and execution of structured finance transactions, including analysis, modelling, due diligence, and preparation of credit materials.
- Liaising with internal teams across EMEA and contributing to pitching, internal approvals, KYC, and administrative processes.
- Supporting the monitoring and management of existing deals and contributing to internal reporting activities.
Our role will enable you to
- Work with multiple internal stakeholders across EMEA such as sector teams, credit, legal, loan administration, planning, corporate banking, and loan capital markets.
- Engage with external stakeholders including corporates, private equity funds, other banks, financial advisors, consultants, insurers, and accountants.
- Build strong networks and enhance your project finance expertise in a highly collaborative and international environment.
What will you bring to the role?
- 2 - 5 years of experience in project finance or a similar analytical role in a primary financial institution.
- Understanding of project finance structures, financial statements, financial modelling, due diligence reports and legal documentation.
- A strong academic background, ideally a degree in Economics, Finance or a related field.
- Fluency in English and Italian; strong Excel and PowerPoint skills; ability to work under pressure and manage multiple workstreams.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to build and maintain effective internal and external relationships.
Desirable:
- Experience in energy, infrastructure, or TMT sector financings.
- An international mindset with demonstrated teamwork and cross‑regional collaboration experience.
- Strong presentation and client‑facing capabilities.
