Role Summary
Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for a Director – Head of Structured Finance for our International and Structured Finance Department (ISD) EU to join our team in Madrid!
Business Area
This is a high-impact leadership role with regional responsibility, offering the opportunity to shape SMBC’s Structured Finance strategy in Iberia. You’ll lead a dynamic team and work on complex, high-profile transactions across EMEA.
In this role you will be responsible for:
- Leading the Madrid Structured Finance team, managing origination and execution of transactions in Iberia.
- Acting as a global relationship manager for Iberian clients, coordinating with ISD teams across geographies.
- Supporting ISD EU’s strategic and business development initiatives in the region.
For you to succeed in the role, you’ll need to have:
- Extensive experience in project finance, including origination, execution, and documentation.
- Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to manage multiple teams and projects.
- A robust network of clients and advisors in the Iberian market.
Position Description
About this role:
This role exists to lead the Madrid Structured Finance team within ISD EU, driving business development and transaction execution in Iberia. It plays a key role in delivering the department’s strategic objectives and supporting cross-border collaboration across SMBC’s global network.
Our role will enable you to:
Engage with a wide range of stakeholders including senior management, internal departments across EMEA, global SMFG entities, and external clients such as corporates, financial institutions, advisors, and government bodies.
What will you bring to the role?
- Proven leadership in project finance with at least 10 years of relevant experience.
- Strong financial and analytical skills, with the ability to manage complex transactions and teams.
- Experience working with a broad range of stakeholders, including clients, advisors, and internal functions.
Desirable:
- Financial modelling experience and multilingual capabilities.
- Experience in mentoring junior staff and contributing to strategic initiatives.
- Familiarity with SMBC’s internal processes and cross-regional collaboration.
