We’re looking for a VP for our Global Transaction Banking Department (GTBD) to join our team. The VP within the GTBD Product Channels team will support the development and enhancement of our Online Banking, Host-to-Host (H2H), Swift, and evolving channels including API. Partnering closely with our Legal, Compliance, Operations, Risk, Sales, and Technology teams in both the EMEA and other regions, this role will help manage regulatory and scheme adherence. This position demands expertise in transaction banking, and a strong technical understanding of H2H & API, modular architecture and communication protocols to effectively manage and enhance our digital offerings.
Business Area
There are currently approximately 30 members in the GTBD EMEA team including Planning, Sales, and Product Development team. This is however set to grow significantly.
SMBC is expanding its TB channel offering beyond traditional Japanese corporate clients to serve a broader EMEA client base. This role is critical to shaping the future of our customer channels, leveraging digital transformation, ISO 20022 migration, and emerging technologies to deliver competitive solutions.
Background
GTBD manages Transaction Banking (“TB”) businesses in EMEA, which provides an integrated suite of cash management services to address the various needs of corporate and institutional clients. From the interactive online banking channel “E-Moneyger®”, our key product, to Host-to-Host and SWIFT connectivity, or regional and domestic Cash Pooling. We are helping the clients to maximise their efficiency and streamline financial operations.
We offer corporates and institutions:
- convenient, efficient and secure real-time online banking,
- ability to support domestic and international transfers and collections,
- access to high value and low value clearing systems,
- support from regional and in-country cash management specialists across EMEA providing local advisory and sharing best practices.
The job is focused on supporting projects to develop our customer channels, optimise our customer experiences, monitor channel performance and to increase seamless automated transaction processing.
Position Description
Responsibilities
- Drive the enhancement and management of our digital platforms including online banking, host-to-host, Swift corporate connectivity and API channels, including designing and defining requirements and roadmaps, documentation, testing, rollout, through the Bank’s SDLC change management.
- Close collaboration with our stakeholders across EMEA offices and globally, including business, technology and QA teams, to manage channel enhancements, backlog prioritization, interface specifications, release notes, and new process implementation.
- Monitor channel performance and controls: availability, efficiency, error rates, authentication and entitlements; drive issue remediation and continuous improvement. Perform data-based cost-benefit analysis that may support future roadmap.
Accountability
- Working closely with EMEA back offices and front offices to provide best service to corporate cash management customers while aiming to reduce the bank's manual operational burdens, setting up procedures for new products, reaching agreements with other departments on various GTBD initiatives.
- Analyse internal / external workflows, organise meetings and discussions with all bank departments concerned including the Bank’s New Products Committee, obtain agreement from all parties in achieving new product designs / new business flows and review legal and compliance implications.
- Prioritise items for cash management channel enhancements and improvements for the multiple development cycles, by reviewing and analysing existing and future product features, conducting user acceptance testing in each product delivery cycle and assisting in finalising service implementation into the BAU environment.
- Provide customer communications / notifications regarding new products / system upgrades, plan new product roll-out to clients, at the same time enabling GTBD staff on new system features by arranging workshops and creating User Guide materials.
- Participating in cash management-related bank wide projects and regulatory / technology changes.
- Assisting the GTBD Teams in trouble shooting, customer support, providing advice, product knowledge and suggestions on customer RFPs. Identifying risks and make recommendations where possible.
- Contribute to establishing global strategy of transaction banking services through market research or obtaining customer needs.
Qualification, Capabilities and Skills
Required Qualification, Capabilities and Skills
- 10+ years of experience or equivalent expertise in TB channel management, digital transformation or a relevant domain area
- Strong technical understanding in API and Host-to-Host corporate connectivity / ERP integration
- Experiences and understanding in liquidity and payment related products including but not limited to: SEPA, Swift, UK BACS/CHAPS/FPS, Direct Debits, Cash Pooling and Virtual Account Management
- Strong understanding of regulatory landscape such as PSD2/PSR, ISO20022, UK NPV, and G20
- Understanding in AML/KYC processes, good awareness in fraud and sanction
- Excellent stakeholder management and string verbal / written communication skills
- Strong problem solving skills
- Demonstrated prior experience working in a highly matrixed, complex organization
