SMDAM UK is a subsidiary of Sumitomo Mitsui DS Asset Management Ltd, (“SMDAM”)one of the largest investment management companies in Japan, offering discretionary investment management, investment trust and advisory services to a range of institutional investors, pension funds and government agencies worldwide. We have offices in Tokyo, London, New York, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Shanghai and manage assets on behalf of financial institutions, pension funds, government agencies and retail investors.
Alternative Investment is the department in SMDAM UK responsible for establishing and operating investment vehicles focused on providing investors with access to European LBO private credit investments. SMDAM UK will collaborate with SMBC to source investment opportunities for its investment vehicles, the collaboration will be governed by a sourcing and support services agreement and close working relationship with SMBC’s Specialised Products Departmen. SMDAM UK intends to raise a series of LBO private credit funds as well as evaluating expansion into adjacent private credit asset classes.
The Alternative Investment team has 8 people based in London, is led by the Head of European Alternative Investments and supported by the wider SMDAM UK infrastructure
Role Summary
This is an exciting opportunity to become a Team Assistant – Private Markets team at SMDAM UK. SMDAM UK is a subsidiary of Sumitomo Mitsui DS Asset Management Ltd, one of the largest investment management companies in Japan, offering discretionary investment management, investment trust and advisory services to a range of institutional investors, pension funds and government agencies worldwide and plans to significantly expand its asset management activities outside of Japan over the next ten years, focusing on a range of alternative credit classes and leveraging the expertise of the wider SMBC Group.
The Team Assistant AVP to Alternative Investment is a key hire to ensure the effective and proactive arrangements of daily activities of the members of the Alternative Investment team, such as internal and external meetings, business trips and gifts & entertainment approval and logging.
Business Area
Alternative Investment is the department in SMDAM UK responsible for establishing and operating investment vehicles focused on providing investors with access to European LBO private credit investments. The team operate the KDL credit funds which are closed end alternative investment funds with approximately €500m of investible capital including leverage.
Position Description
Key Responsibilities:
- To provide PA support (internal/external meeting, business trip, gifts and entertainment arrangements, invoicing and payment management) for the Alternative Investment team.
- The primary objective is to provide PA support for the Alternative Investmsnt leadership team (approximately three Managing Directors) and as a secondary role, the same to the wider Investment (approximately 5-8 members).
Required skills, abilities and experience:
- Work experience as a PA for senior management and/or departmental PA.
- Ability to quickly understand internal operation process, able to read and understand required process within the business.
- Good communication and inter-personal skills are essential.
- Ability to work to tight deadlines with an attention to detail.
- Basic to intermediate understanding of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Fluent in English.
