Role Summary
Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for a Corporate Governance Associate for our Corporate Governance Group to join our team.
- To assist the SMR team to maintain documentation and conduct processes in relation to the regime (e.g. annual fitness and propriety process, regulatory applications, learning & development plans, etc);
- To book various training sessions for in-scope individuals, as required under SMR; this includes for Senior Management Function Holders (SMFs), Non-Executive Directors (NEDs), and the SMR Team additionally supports General Managers (GMs) within the Front Office.
- To assist the wider Corporate Governance Group by maintaining the Group intranet page, providing support (including ad-hoc diary management) for SMFs and NEDs and undertaking Corporate Governance research, as required; and
- Supporting the preparation of reports, briefing materials and Management Information (MI) for the SMR team, including monitoring and summarising regulatory developments relevant to the Senior Managers Regime (SMR).
Business Area
The Corporate Governance Group comprises the Company Secretarial team and the Senior Managers Regime team. The Senior Managers and Certification Regime was implemented by the PRA and FCA to enhance individual accountability within financial institutions. The Senior Managers Regime team within the Corporate Governance Group is responsible for the systems and controls of the Senior Managers Regime within all UK regulated entities.
Position Description
To assist the Corporate Governance Group, with accountability for:

- Conducting processes such as the Annual Fitness & Propriety of SMFs and NEDs;
- Preparing SMF regulatory applications and notifications;
- Maintaining documents for Senior Managers, such as Reasonable Steps Frameworks and Job Descriptions;
- Booking training sessions and meetings for SMFs, NEDs and GMs, as required;
- Preparing briefing notes, presentations and reports, including monthly MI packs;
- Maintaining the Group’s intranet page;
- Providing support for SMFs, NEDs and Front Office GMs (including ad-hoc diary management) as required, in relation to appointments, handovers and learning and development;
- Undertaking research on regulatory and governance matters;
- Identifying opportunities where AI and automation can improve efficiency, reduce manual effort, and enhance the quality of outputs, while proactively exploring and adopting approved internal tools.; and
- Carrying out any other ad hoc activities, as required.
Essential knowledge, skills and experience:

- Proficiency in MS Office (intermediate to advanced);
- Strong communication skills;
- Confident in senior stakeholder engagement;
- Excellent attention to detail;
- Ability to multi-task;
- Be self-motivated and proactive;
- Previous use of FCA Connect (desirable); and
- Be able to work in a flexible and responsive manner according to business requirements.
