Role Summary

Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for a Business Resource Manager for our Sales & Trading Vertical to join our team. 

This is a role where you will help shape financial transparency, performance measurement, and resource optimisation across the S&T business, directly influencing ROE accuracy and senior‑level decision‑making. You’ll play a central role in enhancing profitability and resource efficiency in a fast‑growing global organisation.

Essentials of this role is:

  • Analysing and reporting S&T performance, including revenue, cost transparency/allocation, and ROE drivers.
  • Supporting improvements to human‑resource‑related processes and revenue attribution frameworks across S&T.
  • Supporting enhancing management and optimisation of financial resources, including limits related to Basel framework, balance sheet, and risk limits.

In order to successfully partake in the role, you would be required with:

  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to conduct number crunching and analyse cost/revenue drivers.
  • Proven analytical, issue-identifying, problem‑solving, and communication skills, with confidence engaging with senior stakeholders.
  • A collaborative, proactive mindset with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑moving environment.

Business Area

S&T Vertical across EMEA, consists of Bank International, SMBC Capital Markets Limited, Bank EU, and branches with close collaboration in the entities in the US.

S&T businesses covers Equity, Credit, Macro Rates cash and derivatives, Securities Finance in Fixed Income space, FX, and Risk Solutions in derivatives space.

Position Description

The BRM function plays a key role in enabling S&T to deliver sustainable and accurate ROE by improving financial reporting, resource allocation, and transparency. As S&T continues to expand in scale and complexity across regions and functions, this role exists to strengthen oversight of ROE components, performance reporting, budgeting, HR processes, and financial resource usage. You will work closely with senior leaders across S&T, BI, SMBC Group, and Nikko to enhance organisational efficiency and decision‑making.

 

Key stakeholders

  • Co‑heads of the S&T Vertical, head of S&T groups and departments
  • Senior management across BI supporting functions
  • Global product and function owners within SMBC and Nikko
  • Cross‑regional and cross‑functional project teams

This role will enable you to:

  • Coordinate financial resource optimisation with specialist teams, reporting risks and positions, and establishing allocation frameworks across S&T.
  • Contribute to the development of frameworks for managing and allocating financial resources.
  • Drive cost transparency, challenge incorrect allocations, and influence improvements in allocation methodology along with cost‑centre governance including creation, modification, and rationalisation.
  • Support improvements to revenue‑arrangement frameworks (fees, commissions, PnL attribution, internal charges).
  • Strengthen people‑related processes, including HR coordination, headcount cost budgeting, and fair revenue attribution across traders and non‑traders.
