Role Summary
- To contribute to the development, support and budget achievement of the EMEA Real Estate Finance (REF) business
- To work as part of a supervised deal team to identify, analyse, execute and monitor REF transactions.
- To support deal team leaders in certain origination and execution processes under supervision of VP/D/ED and contribute as needed on all deal aspects (due diligence, modelling, credit application preparation, KYC, settlement, monitoring).
- To support all credit and administrative portfolio management activities including timely and effective support of portfolio managers of the EMEA Real Estate Finance (REF) portfolio.
Business Area
- This role resides in the London office of SMBC Bank International Plc (SMBC BI).
- The role is part of the Real Estate Finance (REF) team within the Structured Real Estate Finance Group of the Specialised Products Department.
- The EMEA REF team originates and manages real estate finance loans in areas of income producing and development non-recourse structures on properties located in UK and continental Europe
- The REF team currently manages c.$6bln in funded assets and commitments across c.50 exposures/borrowers. Majority of the portfolio is secured on income-producing properties across UK/Europe in the office, retail, logistics, residential and alternative sectors.The REF team typically acts as lead arranger in real estate financings.
- EMEA real estate financings are complex and diverse covering direct lending or Loan on Loan products, both single and multiple property portfolios across a multitude of asset types, jurisdictions (UK, London, European cities) and sponsors (asset and fund managers, HNW, property developers, JV).
Position Description
The role is to provide junior support to the VP/D/ED cohort in the marketing, origination, execution and portfolio management aspects associated with the EMEA REF portfolio.
- Credit: Provide written analytical output and procedural support in the production of new credit applications and credit monitoring through e.g., sourcing and compiling information from borrowers, third party sources, reconciling / verifying cash flow or financial information, producing routine reports, schedules and summaries of data. Prepare regular and ad hoc reports in an accurate, concise and complete manner for review by AVP/VP/D/ED and submission to credit department. Source documentation (financial statements, compliance certificates, valuations) and liaise with clients/ third parties (agents, valuers, attorneys) as required. Assist in the performance of property due diligence / site visit as required.
- Origination & Execution: Support deal leader in the analysis and structuring of new transactions, and assist closing process including engagement with internal parties (KYC, OAD, Legal, Compliance) and external parties (valuers, attorneys, agents) including in the areas of i) Initiating and managing all on-boarding processes through direct interface and cooperation with internal and external parties, and ii) liaison with all support and function teams (e.g., Planning, Compliance, Control, Loans Admin, KYC) to ensure satisfaction of all internal booking and operational requirements necessary to successfully book new loan transactions
- Portfolio and Transaction Monitoring: Support portfolio managers in the timely ongoing performance analysis and monitoring of transactions, including preparation of credit applications for annual reviews and consents/ amendments / waivers on allocated portfolio accounts.
- Process: Develop high familiarity and understanding of key bank systems and processes relevant to role, including GBR, TheMIS, PowerBI, DealCloud, and comply with key Standard Operating Procedures and Credit Management Rule and Policy. Contribution to maintenance, betterment and up-date of the procedures as requested.

- Communication: Strong and proven communication (written and verbal). Ability to work proactively as a team player within EMEA REF and across the Bank with limited supervision.
- Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and/or working towards a relevant professional post graduate qualification/professional chartered status.
