Role Summary

Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for a Planning  & Performance Analyst (Vice President) for our Operations and Planning Department (OPPD) to join our team. 

The purpose of this role is to analyse financial and workforce data, create forecasts and provide insights to support strategic decision-making through:

  • Maintaining oversight of the budgeting and financial reporting process
  • Undertaking financial modelling, and performance analysis to enable senior managers to make informed choices. 
  • Examining financial statements, trends, and performance metrics to understand the current financial state. 
  • Developing and maintaining financial models to project future performance, assess different scenarios, and support strategic planning. 
  • Assisting in the development of annual budgets, forecasts, and long-range financial plans. 
  • Evaluating actual performance against targets and budgets, identifying variances, and recommending corrective actions. 
  • Providing financial analysis and insights to support strategic priorities, such as workforce planning, cost control and scenario modelling.
  • Preparing and presenting financial reports to management, highlighting key findings, trends, and recommendations. 
  • Support effective internal relationships with the Strategic Planning Department and senior managers within OPPD by gathering and analysing data, preparing financial plans, and resolving issues. 

Business Area

The remit of OPPD spans all SMBC EMEA entities and countries, all business units and supporting functions, including:

  • OPPD Planning Group: Responsible for enhancing and improving the operating effectiveness of the Operations Planning Department.
  • Transformation and Change Management Group: Responsible for programme and project design and delivery, change methodology and toolset and providing Project Management and Business Analyst resources to support programmes and projects.
  • Data Management Group: Responsible for the Data Strategy, design of the Data Architecture and supporting delivery of data solutions.
  • Financial Crime Business Service Management Group: Responsible for strengthening our first line financial crime capability, particularly as we strive to grow our Transaction Banking business
  • Operational Resilience: Responsible for strengthening the firm’s operational resilience, management of third-party providers (internal and external) and managing third party risk.
  • CRES: Responsible for Corporate Real Estate & Services, Health & Safety, Workplace adjustments and services, Technical and Environmental services and Security & Risk.
  • Control Office: Responsible for mitigating non-financial risks, including but not limited to operational risk and compliance risk within the First Line of Defence (1LoD) of SMBC EMEA

Position Description

Experience, Skills and knowledge:

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills: The ability to analyse complex financial data, identify trends, and develop financial models. 
  • Financial Modelling: Experience using financial modelling software and techniques. 
  • Knowledge of financial reporting and accounting principles: Understanding of financial statements, budgeting, and forecasting processes. 
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills: The ability to effectively communicate financial information to both technical and non-technical audiences. 
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills: The ability to identify and analyse financial problems, develop solutions, and make informed recommendations. 
  • Attention to detail: Ensuring accuracy and integrity of financial data and reports. 
  • Budget Forecasting: Experienced in setting up and running efficient budgeting and forecasting approaches
  • Senior Stakeholder Management: Ability to draw out narrative and insights from finance data for senior audiences
  • Track record of success: Proven experience in financial analysis, planning or strategy within banking or financial services.
  • Planning & Performance Tools: Experience with Anaplan or other enterprise planning platforms is highly preferred
  • Education & Professional qualifications: Degree in Finance, Economics or Business; professional qualifications (e.g. ACCA / CMA) preferred
