Role Summary

Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for a Programe Manager - Vice President to join our Leveraged Finance, Portfolio Management Team within Specialised Products Department (SPD). 

 

As part of an established Centre of Expertise, the role is to ensure the effective, pro-active management of existing and new Structured Lending Joint Venture (JVCo) Programmes that form part of the overall SPD Structured Lending Programmes strategy.

 

Working closely with the Team Leader, activities will include: i) the handling of associated JVCo Programme related amendments, ii) regular and ad hoc JVCo Programme Reporting, iii) Interaction with key senior External and Internal JVCo Programme partners / stakeholders; iv) Ad hoc JVCo Programme matters, and iv) from time to time, active involvement in a) managing / reviewing the underlying European Leveraged Loan assets in conjunction with deal teams / existing OG2 Account Managers and b) projects across OG2.

 

The role:

  1. Requires in depth credit / financial / risk/ legal / operational analysis to be undertaken and presented both within SPD and to key internal stakeholders, such as Credit Department, mainly on a Programme related level but also from time to time from an underlying asset perspective.
  2. Involves the proactive development of JVCo Partner relationships to ensure the programmes are managed effectively.
  3. Requires ongoing / close interaction with and reporting to key stakeholders, particularly Credit Department, SPD Management, OAD (Back Office) and Middle Office.  

 

We are looking for a candidate with:

  1. Strong industry knowledge and understanding of European Leveraged Finance market including trends and developments.
  2. Extensive credit risk analysis skills and expert judgement gained through exposure to European Leveraged Finance transactions including i) high level of expertise and understanding of deal structures and legal documentation, ii) strong credit / risk analysis skills with an ability to analyse / interpret Financial Statements, Financial Due Diligence, forward looking financial data (Budgets. Forecasts, Projections etc.) and other financial information and iii) Cash Flow modelling skills with sound knowledge for Excel    
  3. A Team Player with strong Communication & Organisational Skills - with both internal and external stakeholders - and both written and verbal to enable clear and concise written and verbal presentation of Programme related matters and underlying European Leveraged Finance transactions with an ability to manage multiple workstreams and adhere to deadlines. 

Business Area

This new role sits within the European Leveraged Finance Portfolio Management Team (Origination Group 2 (“OG2”)) of Specialised Products Department where the OG2 team of 45 manage SPD’s c$8.2Bn+ portfolio of c178+ leveraged loans.

 

Part of a Team of up to 12 people based across London, Frankfurt and Paris who currently manage as a Centre of Expertise, the 2 existing JVCo programmes and the ca30 underlying European Leveraged Loan Assets that sit within these programmes. The New JVCo Programmes whilst being sized are expected to have up to ca60-70 underlying European Leveraged Loan Assets.  

 

Reporting into the Team Leader/Executive Director, Group Head / Managing Director and SPD Management.    

Position Description

JVCo Programme Management: Responsibilities will include i) handling of associated JVCo Programme related amendments, including the negotiation of terms internally with Credit Department and externally with JVCo Partners, ii) regular & ad hoc JVCo Programme Reporting to key stakeholders including SPD Management, Credit Department and JVCo Board Members & iii) dealing with various ad hoc JVCo Programme related matters.

Underlying Asset Management: From time to time, subject to capacity, active involvement in managing and overseeing a portfolio of  European Leveraged Loan assets. This will involve working closely with existing Account Managers in leading the Bank’s interaction and relationship with the borrower’s Management team, conducting in depth financial / credit analysis of transactions and the preparation of Credit submissions for i) new transactions; ii) amendments / waivers on existing allocated portfolio accounts; and iii) add-on / re-financing opportunities on existing allocated portfolio accounts.

Relationships: Along with the Team Leader / ED responsible for developing / enhancing the external relationships with the JVCo Programme Partners to ensure the effective development & management of the JVCo Programmes. Internally, regularly working with Sponsor Coverage and Orgination (OG1), Portfolio Management (OG2) and Structured Lending Programmes teams within SPD plus ongoing liaison with key stakeholders such as Credit Department, Loans Administration (Back Office) and Middle Office teams, to ensure satisfaction of all internal approval, booking and operational requirements necessary under the Programmes. Building appropriate internal networks as required.

Management: Whilst no direct reports day 1, the role includes supporting the Team Leader in reviewing activities and providing leadership and guidance for more junior members of the team: i) sharing experience / best practice on JVCo Programme related matters, to assist with their development, which in turn will help improve / strengthen the knowledge of the team and ii) on leveraged finance workflows.
