Role Summary
Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for an AVP to join our Structured Finance Department.
This role would be working with Director/Senior Director level employees proactively contributing to and running transactions with and for them with high levels of autonomy. The role includes both analysis and administration tasks and taking personal control of smaller individual transactions or significant elements of larger/more complex transactions – including running some transactions and activities independently.
You will require some practical banking experience and demonstrate strong numerical and financial skills with the ability to interpret financial information.
Business Area
The role sits within the Export and Development Solutions team, reporting into the EDS Team Head in Paris/EDS ED in London or Paris.
You will form part of overall team of 9.5 across Western Europe and your main interfaces/relationships are with:

- ISD department members up to GM level.
- Credit department, loans admin, CPD, legal, other marketing departments (CBD1&2, GTFD, TPD etc), OAD, Nikko CM (DCM and swaps), LCM, TD etc in numerous EMEA locations.
- Other SMBC global offices.
- It would be expected that the role would work on 5 to 10 transactions each year with a mix of lead roles and participation roles. It would be expected that the role would close 1 to 3 transactions each year.
Position Description
- This role will be accountable for the management of the assigned portion of the existing portfolio which is as important as generating new business.
- Work with senior staff (Director and above) as part of deal teams in the marketing for, origination of and execution of transactions, and take the lead on transactions or parts thereof.
- Supervise the preparation of credit applications and manage data input for GBR, EIC, Grading and other systems, and help to train and supervise more junior staff in that role.
- Review new facility documentation to ensure the accuracy of all financial details and compliance with the Bank’s procedure and the terms of the associated credit approvals.
- Support the formulation and acceptance of annual budgets as proposed by the Head of Export and Development Solutions, and the achievement of these targets.
- Liaise with all relevant departments within EMEA required for marketing and execution including CD,OAD, CPD, legal, other marketing departments (CBD1&2, GTFD, SPD etc), OAD, [Nikko CM (DCM and swaps)], LCM, etc..
- As appropriate, input and guidance on financial analysis for transactions in support of transaction lead and as part of an advisory or arranging team.
- There is a significant customer facing element to the role, including gathering information (KYC, DD etc) and attending customer meetings, marketing and transaction execution.
