Role Summary
This role is to lead and coordinate regulatory engagement for the S&T division, ensuring alignment between internal activities and external regulatory expectations. The role-operator will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of regulatory submissions and responses on behalf of S&T, while also supporting Compliance in delivering firm-wide regulatory responses.
- Serving as the primary liaison between S&T and internal stakeholders, coordinating communication with UK and European regulators to ensure a cohesive and well-managed regulatory interface.
- Representing S&T in series of large-scale change initiatives already underway, with additional programmes planned to further enhance governance, operational resilience, and compliance to meet evolving regulatory expectations, to meet evolving regulatory expectations.
- Helping the organisation navigate regulatory complexity while supporting the delivery of sustainable, well-controlled growth.
- Regulations: A strong understanding of PRA/FCA rules and guidelines relevant to sales and trading.
- Knowledge: Solid understanding of Securities Markets, Derivatives Markets, and Capital Markets including Equities, Fixed Income, Derivatives products in various types of transactions including buying/selling listed and OTC and Securities Finance transactions (loans, repos).
- Team player: Must be able to operate as part of a closely-knit team, treating all with respect, assertive communication and good interpersonal skills along with strict discipline.
Business Area
S&T consists of Equities, Fixed Income, Derivatives, and FX products that the businesses spread among UK and EU entities. It operates within a complex and highly regulated environment, carrying a relatively high regulatory risk profile. As such, the division is subject to ongoing regulatory scrutiny, which is expected to continue over the foreseeable future.
The regulatory landscape continues to evolve, with new requirements on the horizon that will impact how the business operates and manages risk. Within this context, the responsibility for regulatory implementation planning and prioritisation sits firmly with the First Line of Defence, requiring proactive engagement and ownership from business-aligned functions.
Trading Controls and Governance Project is a two-year project, focused on Trading Risk, Supervision Risk and Governance arrangements in S&T. The project will require change leadership and SME inputs varying from reporting and data standards to governance frameworks and risk appetite thresholds. Similar control uplift projects will be required within other risk stripes such as Liquidity, Market, etc.
Further queries or directives from the PRA and FCA in relation to PSM response on booking models, Trading Controls Information request, other escalations or Audit closures will require close coordination and planning work.
Position Description
S&T Policy Implementation: Acts as S&T lead on key regulatory project(s) such as Trading Controls and Governance with a view of the different regulatory and internal policy implementation projects.
Regulatory Implementation Assessment: Regulatory expert in first line with great understanding of regulation impacting S&T and conducts gap assessments. The role will act as a counterpoint to risk and compliance in second line.
Coordination of regulatory dialogue across jurisdictions: Communicates with the regulator (coordinated with Reg Affairs team in Compliance). Single point of contact for the business and coordinates the collation of material across S&T, especially working closely with Business Control Officers/Business Managers - whom they are representatives from each Desk-, Operations, Technology and Project teams.
