Role Summary
The purpose of this role is to re-establish the Government Bond trading business in EMEA, working closely with Macro Rates S&T and management in EMEA and Tokyo. It plays an important role out from EMEA as one of the arms of global macro rates business, and it is expected that this role-holder will have an influence on the design and implementation of a product and trading strategy.
The scope will be EGB trading to begin with both on the high-touch (co-working with sales) and low-tough (help developing the eTrading platform) , with high volumes anticipated in Futures and swaps for hedging purposes.
EGB Trading will work together with Derivatives Trading closely as Rates Trading in a united trading team, exploit an established client and help set up a more stable revenue base, taking advantage of the opportunities that come from the change in interest rate environment.
Business Area
There is significant investment in hiring talent and building a more robust, sustainable and diverse franchise. There is significant client demand for Rates product from our natural client base in Japan, notably our own Treasury, together with clients across Europe and MENA. There is potential for significant PnL and it is synergistic with other parts of our existing franchise, such as Derivatives and Repo.
This trader will play an important supporting role in every aspect of the build out of our rates business, from infrastructure and operations to trading and risk management. It will cross departments, regions and entities, working with our SMBC EU, US and Tokyo offices and internal counterparts in Risk and Treasury.
Position Description
Support the development and execution of the strategy for a fully functioning EGB trading business
Build commercial and supportive partnerships with Macro Rates, Treasury, SMBC EU and other Global FI centres to drive the business.
Support existing client business from Tokyo and maximise revenue through appropriate hedging strategy;
Work with Fixed Income sales in Tokyo and Macro Rates sales in London to build out a customer focused Government Bond business to make best use of available balance sheet;
Work with internal stakeholders in IT, Risk, Operations, Finance, legal and compliance to ensure robust efficiency across products.
Work with Tokyo and NY to service their needs and access to the European market
Build out the range of counterparties and facilities required to maximise revenues
