Role Summary

The Securitised Products team originates, arranges, structures and places securitisation transactions for clients of the bank both for our own balance sheet - including warehouse financings, bridge loans to ABS/RMBS, loan-on-loans and back-leverage that are structured as securitisations.- as well as for distribution into the capital markets. 

The AVP/VP role will encompass the following key responsibilities, alongside senior team members:

  • Providing market insight and transaction ideas to clients and internal stakeholders
  • Marketing, origination, arranging, structuring, execution, and monitoring of structured finance transactions that are (i) term, bridge, and warehouse financings funded on the SMBC balance sheet (including via ABCP) and/or (ii) marketed, structured and distributed to investors
  • Covering and engaging with originators, sponsors and issuers in conjunction with the relevant RMs, with investors alongside FIST, and with the relevant teams at key Rating Agencies
  • Managing and monitoring the structured finance portfolio in compliance with internal policies and applicable regulations

The candidate should have the following charachteristics, skills and qualifications:

  • Be a self-starter, team player and able to deliver under pressure and against tight deadlines / moving targets
  • Have robust understanding of financial markets, with appropriate degree to match
  • Have strong communication skills and ability to build effective working relationships with key stakeholders in order to develop the business, including experience of public speaking in meetings, conferences, events, teleconferences, and media events
  • Have the ability to remain calm under pressure and follow a sound and rational decision making process
  • Have a robust knowledge and understanding of Securitised products, clients and investor base
  • Have a good knowledge and understanding of legal and regulatory requirements, and awareness of best industry practices for securitised products 

 

Business Area

The Securitised Products team originates, arranges, structures and places securitisation transactions for clients of the bank both for our own balance sheet as well as for distribution into the capital markets. The business is part of Debt Capital Markets (DCM) within the Capital Markets & Advisory department.

The Securitised Products team works alongside other teams and faces multiple internal and external stakeholders, including Corporate Banking, Project and Infrastructure Finance, Real Estate, Transportation, DCM, FIST, Derivatives, Compliance, and Legal, as well as SMBC Leasing & Finance and SMBC Aviation Capital. Externally, the team engages with Sponsors / Originators, Issuers, Servicers, Investors, Rating Agencies, Legal Counsels, Advisors, Securities Exchanges, and Data Providers.

Position Description

The AVP/VP will report to the MD responsible for the business and work alongisde the Securitised Products team.

Key functions include:

  • Providing market insight and transaction ideas to clients and internal stakeholders
  • Preparing client presentations (working together with the bank's corporate banking, financial institutions, and structured credit teams) and marketing materials
  • Financial modelling
  • Due diligence
  • Dealing with rating agencies
  • Reviewing legal documents (in coordination with internal legal and external counsels)
  • Preparing internal memos and credit applications
  • Performing profitability analysis
  • Arranging roadshow logistics in conjunction with Syndicate
  • Contribute to relevant internal processes including MNPI notifications, market soundings, on-boarding of new clients, etc.
  • Support the team in respect of monitoring market activity in specialised publications, maintenance of deal databases, pitch book libraries, preparation of regular market updates, etc.
