Director - Senior Credit Analyst

Role Summary

As a Director, Senior Credit Analyst in the Corporate Banking Department II, you will act as the first line of defence in managing credit risk for a portfolio of corporate clients. You will play a key role in assessing, structuring, and monitoring credit exposures to ensure the bank’s assets are protected and regulatory requirements are met.

  • Lead the preparation and presentation of high-quality credit applications and risk assessments, managing deal teams for mergers & acquisitions / technically complicated transactions
  • Actively monitor and manage a portfolio of high-complexity corporate clients , and be expected to take one or more Lead Sector responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support new transactions and ongoing credit processes.

Top 3 Candidate Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a corporate credit analyst through at least two economic cycles and exposure to the Energy / Commodities and / or Sub-IG world / corporate leveraged/structured finance
  • Strong analytical, financial modelling, and documentation review skills.
  • Fluency in English, with excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.

Business Area

Corporate Banking Department II (CBD2) – Front Office Credit.
The team supports the bank’s corporate lending and risk management activities across EMEA, focusing on a diverse portfolio including syndicated loans, derivatives, trade finance, and corporate leveraged/ M&A finance solutions.

CBD2 EMEA has around 185 customer groups for which FO Credit monitor the credit risk

Position Description

The Senior Credit Analyst (D) is responsible for managing credit risk in line with internal policies and external regulations. This includes conducting in-depth credit analysis, preparing credit applications, and supporting the structuring and negotiation of new transactions. The role also involves continuous monitoring of existing clients and contributing to special credit reviews (overall managed portfolio of c.15 corporate medium/ high complexity customer groups). The Senior Credit analyst will report to the CBD2 London Head of Credit.

 

Credit Quality

  • Prepare succinct, high-quality credit applications incorporating financial analysis, industry and peer comparisons, and projection modelling.
  • Recommend obligor and facility grades in line with Basel requirements and internal credit policies.
  • Review and provide feedback on junior analysts’ credit submissions to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Support the bank’s sustainability strategy by conducting Enhanced Customer Due Diligence and assessing compliance, reputational, and other non-financial risks.
  • Evaluate loan documentation to ensure appropriate risk mitigation.
  • Lead deal teams based on transaction complexity and personal risk appetite.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders (Relationship Managers, Credit Department, Corporate Research, Product Specialists, etc.) to facilitate efficient credit approval processes.
  • Contribute to special credit reviews to proactively mitigate potential losses.

 

Credit Processes

  • Assist in managing daily workflow, reporting requirements and sector coverage within the team.
  • Ensure timely completion of portfolio reviews and adherence to internal credit policies.
  • Maintain internal systems and grading tools to ensure compliance with procedures.
  • Participate in ad hoc projects and initiatives as required.

 

Training & Development

  • Supervise and coach junior team members to enhance team capabilities and support professional development.

Skills

  • Advanced financial analysis and forecasting.
  • Proficiency in Excel (financial modelling) and Word.
  • Deep understanding of credit products: syndicated loans, derivatives, trade finance, leasing. Including in the Sub-IG universe.
  • Familiarity with legal documentation (LMA, ISDA, CSA, etc.), both in the IG and sub-IG world
  • Sector expertise in at least three industries (e.g., Oil & Gas, Pharma, TMT, etc.).
  • Experience in sub-investment grade and/or leveraged finance.
