Role Summary

Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for a Vice President – Macro Rates Sales for our S&T, Global Markets Department, Macro Rates Group (Derivatives) to join our team. 

This role offers the opportunity to help build a growing Macro Rates franchise across derivatives and cash macro rates products (e.g. government bonds), while working closely with global stakeholders to deliver seamless client coverage.

 

Essentials of the role:

  • Manage and develop client relationships while driving cash macro rates and derivatives revenue
  • Support pricing and executing  client transactions in collaboration with trading teams
  • Contribute to building a multi-product sales platform across derivatives and cash  macro rates products

 

Candidate requirements:

  • Strong experience in macro rates or derivatives sales within a global markets environment
  • Proven client relationship management and commercial track record
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to collaborate across regions

Business Area

The Macro Rates Department sits within Global Markets in the public side and is responsible for delivering rates products and solutions across derivatives and cash securities. The team operates across multiple entities (CM Ltd and SMBC BI) and works closely with global counterparts in Europe, the US and Asia to provide seamless client coverage.

As part of a growing platform, the department is building an integrated Sales & Trading model, combining derivatives trading, cash bond trading and multi-product sales. The role will contribute to this build-out, requiring strong collaboration across trading, credit, legal, and compliance functions, as well as alignment with global teams.

Position Description

The role is responsible for managing client relationships and supporting the growth of the Macro Rates business, with a focus on derivatives sales.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing and growing institutional client relationships, providing market insights and products
  • Supporting trade pricing and execution using internal models and coordinating closely with trading desks, both on the high-touch (voice) and low-touch (eTrading) basis
  • Preparing and coordinating credit applications and interacting with internal credit teams
  • Liaising with legal and compliance teams on documentation, regulatory and KYC requirements
  • Supporting onboarding improvements and operational processes to enhance client coverage
  • Contributing to internal initiatives, including training and knowledge sharing across the team
  • Working closely with global stakeholders to ensure consistent and effective client coverage across regions

 

The role requires strong collaboration across internal stakeholders, including trading desks, middle office, and control functions, as well as engagement with global teams to support the continued build-out of the Macro Rates platform.
