Role Summary

Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for a Loan Capital Market Executive Director for our Corporate Investment Banking department to join our team.

The LCM ED will manage the LCM Execution Team (‘LCMX’). 

  • The LCMX Team supports the documentation aspects related to unsecured and secured syndicated loans to corporates, financial institutions, sovereigns and funds originated by CBD2, META, GFIG, SPD and (on a case by case basis) CBD1.
  • The Team is the ‘centre of excellence’ for the execution of syndicated loan documentation responsible for sharing best practice and market information in respect of documentation standards as well as the development of internal guidelines relating to documentation.
  • As a member of the leadership team within LCM, the LCMX ED will lead and set the strategy for the LCMX and contribute to the strategic planning of the broader LCM team as well as Front Office, LCM Agency and Legal & Compliance.  
  • As well as leading the LCMX team, the ED will be expected to undertake transactions directly.
  • The LCMX ED will represent the Team at LCM weekly meetings and present regular updates to senior management via presentations and face-to-face meetings.  The LCMX ED will manage 8 direct reports ensuring their performance and behavioural development.

Business Area

LCMX plays a key role in both minimising documentation risk via a ‘centre of excellence’ approach for loan documentation and providing crucial transaction management execution to ensure the successful closing of transactions being led by LCM.  

LCMX advises internal stakeholders on current market practice in the European loan market by drawing on documentation benchmarks/LMA templates and helping to set minimum documentation standards internally to ensure documentation is both consistent and robust helping drive and originate to distribute model and ensure maximum liquidity of the loan portfolio.

Centralising the documentation process and execution in one specialist team of experts drives efficiency and critically enables Front Office teams and LCM Origination to focus their time on marketing and other client facing activity.

Position Description

 

  • Provide technical expertise on all aspects of EMEA syndicated loan documentation including legal and regulatory parameters ensuring the negotiated documentation reflects the Bank’s positioning and is within policy framework;
  • Utilise loan documentation expertise to assist LCM colleagues when structuring transactions, aiding the commercial position of the Bank’s Client proposals;
  • At all times, be fully cognisant of the Bank’s desired sell down objectives on each transaction and provide relevant associated contextual documentation/execution input;
  • Lead the loan documentation process with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring as far as possible a timely and non-problematic execution for both the Bank and our Client;
  • Ensure SMBC support and control functions including OAD, Agency, FMCO, Compliance and Tax are fully aligned to enable successful transaction closing and, where appropriate, funding;
  • Together with LCM colleagues, where appropriate pitch for Documentation Agent roles, thereby assisting the Bank to win desired Client mandates;
  • Contribute to internal documentation policy reviews, advising internal stakeholders on market developments and recommending appropriate action;
  • Provide strong leadership, coaching, and career development for junior team members, ensuring clear guidance, appropriate training and the cultivation of a high -performance talent pipeline.
  • Set a positive example as team leader in terms of commitment and behaviour always leading as a strong role model;
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and comprehensive reporting of transaction activity and progress, supporting financial planning, forecasting, and performance management.
