Purpose of Job

  • Support the delivery of Sales & Trading transformation initiatives by supporting project activities, tracking delivery progress, and ensuring key milestones, risks and dependencies are actively managed.
  • Partner with Front Office, Operations, Technology and Control Functions to facilitate effective stakeholder engagement, requirements gathering, governance and execution.
  • Drive high-quality project governance and reporting, providing timely management information, status updates and insight to senior management to support decision-making and successful programme outcomes.

Background

  • SMBC EMEA is currently expanding S&T business to align with industry standards, best practices, regulatory expectations, and evolving customer needs. This includes governance, controls, regulatory compliance, technology / infrastructure enhancements and definition of the target operating model.
  • To support this initiative, we are strengthening our internal change and transformation capabilities with a focus on S&T, governance / controls enhancement, regulatory compliance and technology implementations. Our Transformation and Change Management Group (TCMG) plays a critical role in driving and coordinating these strategic efforts.
  • TCMG provides the SMBC enterprise professional programme management resource and expertise to the organisation. It operates at a strategic level to provide enterprise-wide oversight and execution of change.
  • The function is composed of highly qualified programme and project managers with deep expertise in regulatory change, business transformation, and banking operations
  • The successful candidate will join this established team to lead the delivery of complex, cross functional S&T projects in line with business strategy.

Facts/Scale

  • Project length can range from 6months - 2 years in duration
  • Work alongside a wide variety of corporate grades across EMEA offices.
  • May be involved in 1-3 projects or change initiatives that have different drivers and deliverables with associated deadlines and priorities.

Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Support end-to-end delivery of Sales & Trading change initiatives, ensuring milestones, risks, dependencies and actions are effectively managed.
  • Support creation and maintenance of project documentation (plans, RAID logs etc.) and aligned to governance standards.
  • Track project progress against agreed timelines, budget and scope and prepare project reporting for relevant governance forums e.g. SteerCos and Committees.
  • Coordinate workshops and working groups to gather requirements and resolve issues.
  • Monitor project risks, issues and dependencies, escalating as appropriate.
  • Support project financial tracking and resource management activities.
  • Support senior project managers and programme leads in managing stakeholder expectations and delivery objectives.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications

Education & Qualifications

  • The role requires the candidate to be educated to degree level
  • Industry recognised modern project management qualification such as PMP or APM preferred but not essential

Experience & Knowledge

  • Evidence of previous experience in financial services, and banking activities and/or the surrounding regulatory framework; preferably within Sales & Trading.
  • Strong stakeholder management and collaboration skills
  • Able to work collaboratively as well as independently
  • Must be detail orientated, analytical and inquisitive
  • Evidence of effective communication skills both written and verbal including presenting complex information simply and succinctly
  • Practical and willing to take responsibility to ensure objectives are achieved
  • Good time management – must be able to work to deadlines, in an ambiguous environment and under pressure

  • This role requires the ability to absorb complex subject matter rapidly and not be afraid to ask questions to ensure clarity and accuracy
