Role Summary
Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for a Head of the Senior Managers Regime (SMR) Team. Reporting to the Company Secretary/Head of Corporate Governance Group, you will lead a team of four and be responsible for ensuring that our four regulated entities are fully complying with the requirements of the SMR. This is a high profile role and you will engage frequently with senior leaders and members of the Board.
You will act as a trusted advisor on all aspects of the SMR, providing advice and challenge to members of the Board and senior management, and engaging in all decisions in respect of the regime.
Business Area
The Senior Managers Regime Team is part of our Corporate Governance Group, alongside the Company Seretariat. The two teams work closely together and you will play an important role is ensuring good communication flows and coordination on all relevant SMR matters.
Position Description
Key responsibilities
- Oversight for the day-to-day SMR activity of our four regulated entities This includes responsibility for regulatory interaction on matters involving the approval of Senior Managers; allocation of Senior Manager responsibilities; and accuracy and completeness of associated documentation (such as Handovers, Management Responsibilities Map and Statements of Responsibilities).
- Manage the SMR team and proactively provide team members with the appropriate level of support, guidance and autonomy to deliver their goals effectively.
- The role holder will work closely with stakeholders across the Bank, particularly in Compliance, HR, the wider Company Secretarial team, General Counsel and SMF population.
- Lead fitness and propriety assessments for all individuals in scope of the SMR.
- Work with Senior Managers to ensure that all relevant SMR requirements are met.
- Horizon scanning for emerging regulatory trends in respect of SMR. Presenting strategic plans for implementing and communicating changes to relevant internal stakeholders.
- Ownership of SMR policies. Manage and track the end-to-end processes for regulatory applications and notifications. Oversee and provide assurance that Statements of Responsibilities, Prescribed Responsibilities and Management Responsibilities Maps are current and complete.
- Responsible for the timely production and submission of management information in relation to SMR.
