Role Summary

This position acts as a team head within the Origination Team of LF with a focus on the providing junior/mezz debt into asset backed projects.

As a senior front desk staff, you will:

• Be sponsible for the team, collectively, making budget, as well as individual budget targets.
• Provide sector expertise with extensive knowledge of this sector and will be expected to dynamically grow this business line
• Lead and participate in the origination and execution of deals across a selection of asset types for a range of clients

The product base of LF is diversifying and this role is key in leading the required product growth, therefore knowledge of CLO/ABS/SRT structures are important and this person will lead in developing these products

Business Area

SMBC Leasing Finance (LF) is a product group of the bank.  The team provides asset finance solutions to clients of the bank and front desk staff work both with various departments in the EMEA region as well as source deals directly themselves. Deals can take the form of all forms of leases/asset back loans or junior/mezz debt into project finance deals.

LF breaks its front desk down into sector/asset specialists and different staff are also closely linked to other departments for joint working opportunities. This position would be in charge of the structured finance team and should have expertise across product types with a focus on junior product opportunities.

LF is the product owner for junior/mezz products in the EMEA division, and this product has been identified as a key growth area by senior management

Position Description

LF is looking to increase revenues dramatically over the next three years and new products/market segments/asset classes are core to achieving this, all of which are key areas for this position to develop.  As such you will be required to:

• Support leadership in shaping and delivering the EMEA business plan.
• Lead and support new product development
• Be responsible to achieve significant growth P&L targets for the team this person manages
• Be the main point of contact for both internal & external stake holders, including attending conferences
• Work in conjunction with Head of Origination, and sectors for LF building on the team’s expanded ability to consider junior/mezz debt opportunities to develop new products
• Develop strong knowledge of how EMEA division works and the risk parameters that are adhered to
• Lead relationships with key product areas, in particular project finance and sponsor coverage teams
• Aid LF efforts to increase distribution capabilities working with numerous stakeholders in EMEA Division
• Required to lead the team to source, analyse and execute deals
• Act as key team member to represent LF both internally and externally and lead marketing of their team to win deals
• Monitor and manage the cost base with a view to improving ROE
• Monitor developments across the business and stay current with market needs and trends
• Ability to think laterally and be able to develop derivations of structures to be able to meet client needs
• Supervise credit process for deals and help to train and supervise more junior staff in that role
• Pro-actively suggests improvements, new market sectors and products to enhance capabilities of LF leading to increased P&L opportunities and once support received from head of team lead those development efforts.
