Role Summary
Here at SMBC, we're looking for an HR Analytics and Insights Developer to join our team on a fixed term basis.
The role supports the evolution of HR’s reporting ecosystem by advancing the Bank’s front-end visualisation, dashboarding and insight generation capability. A major aspect of the position is working collaboratively with the Data Architecture Lead to inform the design of Alteryx transformation workflows and data models, ensuring they align with the requirements of high-quality Power BI dashboards.
This role sits at the intersection of stakeholder requirements, data storytelling and front-end dashboard delivery, ensuring that reporting logic, visual design, security permissions and analytical insights are seamlessly aligned, scalable and user-driven. The role will help strengthen HR Analytics’ ability to respond more quickly to business questions through agile dashboard development, improved MI products and insight-focused outputs. Beyond dashboard development, the role will help establish a culture of insight-led decision support, ensuring reporting outputs are accompanied by meaningful interpretation and practical recommendations that drive business value.
The anticipated salary range for this role is up to £78,500; with the final offer determined based on the candidate’s skills, experience, role scope, location, and relevant market factors. In addition to base salary, the role may be eligible for a discretionary incentive award and a competitive benefits package, including core benefits such as pension provision.

Position Description
Power BI Dashboard Development
- Act as a front-end MI and Insight specialist for the design, build and enhancement of Power BI dashboards across HR Analytics.
- Lead the development of visually compelling, intuitive and secure dashboard outputs that support senior stakeholder decision-making.
- Apply advanced DAX, JSON, dashboard design and data storytelling techniques.
- Design and maintain advanced RLS and role-based permission models.
- Develop reusable Power BI components, measures, themes and visual standards.
Insight Generation & Agile MI Delivery
- Translate complex business questions into insight-led dashboard outputs, executive commentary and actionable recommendations that support strategic decision making.
- Develop analytical narratives that explain not only what is happening within the data, but also the underlying drivers, business implications, risks and opportunities.
- Support the department's transition from traditional metric reporting towards agile, insight-focused analytics through rapid prototyping, iterative dashboard development and responsive stakeholder engagement.
- Proactively identify emerging workforce trends, anomalies and areas requiring leadership attention, converting data into meaningful business intelligence for executive consumption.
- Validate dashboard outputs, calculations and data integrity using advanced Excel techniques and robust quality assurance processes.
- Leverage advanced visual storytelling techniques to enhance the impact, accessibility and adoption of HR insights across stakeholder groups.
- Support AI-enabled analytics and future Power BI AI capabilities, identifying opportunities to improve self-service insight generation and accelerate decision support.
Stakeholder Engagement & Requirement Gathering
- Gather and document stakeholder requirements.
- Translate business needs into dashboard specifications, KPIs and measures.
- Educate stakeholders on metrics, insight interpretation and dashboard usage.
Collaboration with Data Architecture
- Partner with the Data Architecture Lead to ensure Alteryx outputs support reporting requirements.
- Define front-end data requirements and testing criteria.
- Support implementation, testing and issue resolution.
Operational Support & Continuous Improvement
- Enhance existing MI products and dashboards.
- Drive automation, standardisation and reporting improvements.
- Adopt emerging Power BI, DAX, JSON and AI best practices.
Skills you'll bring
- Advanced Power BI dashboard development experience, with strong visual design, UX and data storytelling capability.
- Advanced DAX skills, including the ability to design robust measures, calculations and reusable analytical logic.
- Strong JSON capability for Power BI themes, formatting, customisation and consistent front-end design standards.
- Advanced understanding of RLS, role-based permissions and secure dashboard access design.
- Strong insight generation skills, with the ability to translate data into clear narratives, recommendations and business-relevant outputs.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and requirements gathering capability, including the ability to convert business needs into dashboard specifications and iterative delivery plans.
- Ability to work collaboratively with Data Architecture and ETL resources, particularly where Alteryx-transformed data must support Power BI front-end outputs.
- Advanced Excel skills for validation, reconciliation, calculation testing and quality assurance of dashboard outputs.
- Strong analytical capability, attention to detail and ability to work in an agile, continuous improvement environment.
- Demonstrated ability to synthesise complex datasets into executive-level commentary, actionable insights and strategic recommendations.
