Role Summary
Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for a Global Mobility Manager to join our EMEA HR team.
The Global Mobility Manager is responsible for the operational delivery, governance and continuous improvement of Global Mobility services across EMEA. The role provides subject matter expertise and operational leadership across international assignments, permanent transfers, immigration, cross-border employment, international remote work and associated compliance activities.
Operating within a global and evolving mobility framework, the role partners closely with HR, Tax, Payroll, Legal, Finance, Risk and external vendors to ensure Global Mobility programs are delivered effectively, compliantly and in alignment with business objectives. The role exercises sound judgement in balancing employee experience, compliance, risk and commercial considerations, and is expected to proactively identify issues, challenge assumptions, influence decision-making and escalate risks where appropriate.
Combining hands-on operational delivery with ownership of processes, controls, reporting, vendor management and policy implementation, the role serves as the primary operational owner for Global Mobility across EMEA. The successful candidate will operate with a high degree of autonomy, owning the day-to-day operational activities and supporting the execution of global mobility strategy and programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end delivery of international assignments, international hires, permanent transfers, localisation arrangements & other cross-border employment scenarios
- Provide expert advice to a number of cross-functional business stakeholders on mobility-related matters
- Support non-standard mobility cases ensuring a high-quality employee experience balanced against compliance, risk & cost considerations
- Be the subject matter expert for immigration, right-to-work, mobility-related tax, social security & cross-border compliance matters
- Coordinate mobility-related tax, payroll & reporting activities with effective stakeholder hand-offs & compliance throughout the employee mobility lifecycle
- Support international remote work & cross-border working, identifying risks & recommending appropriate controls
- Maintain mobility policies, governance frameworks, operational controls & audit readiness standards
- Manage mobility vendors, monitor service delivery & support cost management, invoicing & governance activities
- Develop & maintain mobility processes, procedures & operational guidance
- Produce & analyse mobility reporting & management information to support governance, workforce planning & decision-making
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives & operational maturity across the Global Mobility function
- Build trusted relationships across HR, Reward, Payroll, Tax, Finance, Risk, Compliance & Legal functions
- Act as a trusted advisor, providing practical & commercially balanced guidance
- Influence stakeholders, drive accountability & exercise sound judgement to challenge, escalate & mitigate operational, compliance & governance risks
- Deliver stakeholder training & support global mobility projects & change initiatives
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Significant experience within Global Mobility, International HR, Employment Tax or a related discipline
- Deep knowledge of international assignments, immigration, mobility tax, payroll, social security & cross-border employment compliance
- Experience with employee movement across multiple jurisdictions within a complex international environment
- Ability to operate independently, influence stakeholders & manage competing priorities with minimal supervision
- Experience developing processes, controls & governance frameworks within a regulated environment
- Experience managing third-party vendors & professional service providers
- Strong analytical, problem-solving & communication skills
- Ability to work effectively across cultures & geographies within a global organisation
- Experience working within Japanese &/or other multinational matrix organisations would be advantageous. Japanese language capability is desirable
