Role Summary
Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for a Vice President for our Finance Internal Controls team:
- Take the lead in (IFRS) technical accounting support and application, including revisions and developments with accounting standards
- Support on significant transactions for the EMEA region, including detailed technical accounting analysis and producing relevant documentation to a high standard
- Own New Product review process and co-ordination for the region
- Financial control, reporting and oversight of the SLA cost sharing model across the SMBC EMEA region
- Using analytics to provide meaningful explains, KPIs, variance analysis and scenarios for senior mgmt. reporting
Business Area
- The EMEA region comprises a number of SMBC branches, and separate legal entities based in London and Frankfurt
- This is a new role within the Finance Internal Controls team and has responsibility for EMEA-wide collaboration and driving of best practice:

- Head of Financial Control and Reporting
- Finance Department - Tokyo
- EMEA Finance team colleagues
- Front Office / Functional leads
- Operations team, Internal & External Audit
Position Description
- Fully Qualified Accountant (ACA or CIMA) or equivalent
- Proactive knowledge sharing of relevant topics across teams
- Support Head of Financial Control in responding to ad-hoc technical accounting queries relating to application of IFRS policy and impact on significant transactions
- High quality oversight and support to the end-to-end financial accounting processes associated with SLA execution and controls
- Enhance new product review frameworks and control discipline around testing methodologies
- Balance sheet and financial statement review, account ownership and substantiation
- Liaising with External Auditors to assist with their understanding of SMBC BI’s Financial Statements
- Proactive generation of insightful MI and ad hoc reporting under tight deadlines to a high quality
- Drive process efficiency within the team, identify opportunities for automation and system enhancements and drive delivery
- Act as a business partner through internal networks and key contacts with front office and functional areas
- Engage with management of wider team, including recruitment, onboarding, workflow management and training
- Impactful presentation and communication of complex issues
- Strong technical accounting and financial control knowledge and ability
- Good understanding of application of tax implications of intra-group operations
- Ability to pro-actively work through problems and engage others as required
- Microsoft Excel to a high level, Microsoft Word to a high level, Microsoft Access familiarity
- Adaptable to self-learn systems and challenge existing processes for continuous improvement
- Able to work with and build effective relationships with a range of business functions
