Role Summary

This is a newly created position to support Finance and Control EMEA with both Hedge Accounting and Product Control related tasks in compliance with the the SMBC group's policies and procedures. This role involves strong collaboration across the EMEA region working across multiplie entities.

Ensuring compliance with both accounting principles and further supporting and developing SMBC values and culture.

Business Area

The SMBC F&C department is responsible for all finance functions of the bank with the following core areas:

  • Accounting & Reporting – ongoing bookkeeping & accounting, preparation of annual financial statements and coordination of external audit, compliance with accounting standards (IFRS, (HGB), maintenance of internal control system for financial accounting, financial (non-regulatory) reporting to internal& external parties, management of IT projects, calculation of SLA charges
  • Financial Control & Product Control – ongoing monitoring of financial performance incl. lead of annual financial forecast/MYP process, daily monitoring of trading results, market conformity checks of valuation & pricing
  • Tax Compliance – monitoring of changes to tax legislation, maintenance of tax compliance system, review of all tax declarations, maintenance of transfer pricing documentation, support for other teams on all tax related matters
  • Regulatory Reporting - Compliance with all European & German regulatory & ESG reporting requirements, Coordination of ongoing prudential reporting
  • Finance Change – supporting F&C department with ongoing changes in processes and IT-systems

Position Description

Role Responsibilities:

  •  Support all regular accounting tasks in the remit of Product Control/Hedge Accounting, e.g.: General ledger postings, Effectiveness testing,  reconciliation and control under IFRS
  • Perform all Hedge Accounting tasks for EMEA (Designation, Documentation, Valuation, Testing, Postings and monitoring)
  • Support XVA Accounting ensuring alignment with relevant internal and external guidelines in close cooperation with Product Control
  • Support of monthly closing process for multiple ledgers including preparation of manual adjustment bookings (ADI)
  • Perform GLOSS, FOX, OBS & TheMIS reconciliation, consultation with Middle Office in London, Controlling and Front Office
  • Support the Term End Process for EMEA Financials and group financials, responsibility for dedicated balance and PL positions, preparation of audit requests
  • Preparation of Open Currency Position reporting
  • Perform high quality balance sheet substantiation and attestations
  • Support coordination tasks between EMEA and BI finance
  • Maintenance of F&C related procedures and manuals
  • Proactively manage and contribute to control environment

 

Relevant Knowledge and Skills:

•    Solid experience in an accounting / finance role, preferably within a financial institution
•    Strong knowledge in IFRS and relevant accounting exposure 
•    Educated to bachelors’ level; any professional qualification is considered as a plus
•    Be able to manage complexity with strong numerical skills
•    Expert knowledge in Excel and overall tech-savvy to work with tools like PowerBI or CoPilot. 
•    Demonstrating and promoting team spirit
•    Ability to take the initiative and be proactive 
•    Language skills: English, German advanced level is a plus
