Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for a Director for our Finance and Control department to join our team. 

The Business Model Assessment (BMA) is one of four crucial focus elements of the initial SREP procedure for ECB onboarding. It assesses the viability and sustainability of the banks business model as well as the existing vulnerabilities. This role should ensure all Business Model Assessment requirements are understood & implemented, specifically Planning & Forecasting, Profit allocation, Loan Pricing and Fund Transfer Pricing. The roles also includes coordination with all relevant teams in EU and EMEA and coordination of all methodology and IT related changes.

Business Area

The EMEA F&C department is responsible for all finance functions of the bank. It is divided in four teams:

  1. Financial Accounting & Control
  2. Management Reporting & Analytics
  3. Tax
  4. Regulatory Reporting
  5. Finance Change
  • This role sits within the Management Reporting & Analytics function, which is responsible for all management reporting for EMEA region, including income, expenses, profitability, returns, KPIs, ad-hoc analysis.

The Management Reporting & Analytics team works in collaboration with the Planning Department and Corporate Treasury to understand the impact on profitability of topics such as Loan pricing, cost allocation, Funds Transfer Pricing. The BMA role is well aligned to this team’s scope and objectives.

Position Description

 

  • The Business Model Assessment (BMA) for SMBC EU AG is one of four crucial focus elements of the initial SREP procedure for ECB onboarding for this entity. It assesses the viability and sustainability of the banks business model as well as the existing vulnerabilities.
  • A comprehensive analysis of an institution’s underlying Business Model is required along four key dimensions: sufficient sources of income (“return generation”), strategic positioning, ability to originate profitable business (“execution capabilities”) and resilience to adverse developments
  • BMA is structured according to two distinct assessment pillars: 1) “Strategic Alignment” focuses on presenting qualitative / quantitative aspects of SMBC EU AG’s underlying business model within a “Factbook” for ECB communication; 2) “Execution Capabilities” covers a full view on the entire steering concept by analysing selected operative aspects (e.g., funds transfer pricing, cost allocation, loan pricing) of SMBC EU AG’s business model prescribed by the ECB 
  • This role should ensure all Business Model Assessment requirements are understood & implemented, specifically Planning & Forecasting, Profit allocation, Loan Pricing and Fund Transfer Pricing.
  • Implementation responsibility includes ensuring conceptual definition in line wit ECB definition, implementation of appropriate governance and development of automated solutions.
  • The roles also includes coordination with all relevant teams in EU and EMEA and coordination of all methodology and IT related changes.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Several years’ experience in a controlling / finance role within a financial institution, ideally in an investment bank
  • Experience in leading a team
  • Educated to Bachelors / Masters level; any professional qualification is considered as a plus
  • Be able to understand complex concepts, challenge them and provide explanations in a clear and precise way
  • Strong analytical, numerical and IT skills
  • Strong understanding of financial products and investment banking
  • Expertise in accounting, financial reporting (IFRS and HGB) and valuation
  • Proven track record in building relationships (both internal and external) as well as demonstrating and promoting team spirit
  • Be able to work independently
  • Demonstration of SMBC values
