Role Summary

  • Promote, market and book Interest Rate Derivatives and associated business by liaising with SMBCEU , SMBC BI, SMBC and , SMBC Capital Market Inc. with a focus on Japanese corporate clients in EMEA.
  • Support, improve and develop the build-out of overall interest rate swap derivative and associated product operations and capabilities across all areas of the SMBC and CM group and affiliates
  • Support, improve and develop the build-out of the cross-sale and collaboration with other products for derivative clients, especially in the FX, FIST and TD (Treasury Department) business

Business Area

  • SMBC & its Affiliates have a wide range of clients throughout the EMEA region. The incumbent will work closely with the Bank's Relationship Managers to review & assess clients requirements & suitability for interest rate swap derivative business
  • The incumbent's portfolio of derivatives business will essentially cover Japanese corporate client in EMEA region.

Competencies

Relationship Management:

  • Where deemed appropriate, the incumbent will build relationships with the client to assess derivative opportunities in more detail. The objective is to close derivative trades within Management guidelines
  • Preparation of client materials, trade ideas, client visits & call reports
  • Discussion of Interest Rate and FX hedging, markets, ideas & strategies with clients; including Project Advisors, Corporate Treasurers & other senior Bankers
  • There will be a requirement to travel throughout the EEA and EU region
  • Preparation of call reports

Deal Pricing & execution:

  • Modelling & pricing of trades using  SMBC CM's in-house swap pricing, credit simulation & xVA models
  • Determination of appropriate credit charges by applying our xVA guidelines.
  • Preparation of indicative prices for clients (including surveys) working with Traders where necessary
  • Execution of client trades; always working with Traders.

Credit:

  • Preparation of Credit Applications for submission to the Banks Credit Departments
  • Liaison with Credit Groups within SMBC CM & the Bank ; handling enquiries from those Groups, & monitoring the progress of applications & approvals
  • Understanding of both  SMBC CM's & the Banks Credit monitoring systems

Legal & documentation:

  • Negotiation of Swap Master & Collateral Agreements with corporate clients and Other FIs.
  • Liaison with SMBC CM, the Bank's Legal Groups and the operations departments.

KYC & Compliance:

  • The incumbent will need to understand & be up to date with UK, European & US KYC and other derivative related regulatiory requirements.

Compliance issues

  • Liaison with SMBC CM & the Bank's Compliance Groups

Administration & reporting:

  • Some administrative work including reporting of activity & results
  • Stakeholder management within the CM group and the SMBC group
  • Support of senior management in their reporting and other regulator and organisation duties
  • Regular presentations to senior management and stakeholders across entities to promote business growth and development or optimisation of processes and procedures
