Role Summary
We are seeking a skilled Data Modeller (Assistance Vice President) with good business analysis capabilities to join our Data Modelling team. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with business stakeholders in operations and front office to analyze business services, document processes, and develop logical and conceptual data models. This role requires a deep understanding of data domains, business acumen in the banking and financial services industry, and the ability to assess data similarities across applications.
The organization is currently building a data hub that will serve as the single source for distributing data and follow the medallion architecture. The Silver layer of data hub would be represented through a series of Data domains and sub domains which represent data in the Third normal form. The modeler would develop conceptual and logical data models for these data domains and sub domain, create provisions to map them to the Business Information model in alignment to the Data Modelling Policy.
Business Area
SMBC has a global vision for a Data Platform that provides a comprehensive data service to its consumers. This platform leverages various technologies, primarily Databricks, to simplify and enhance data access, removing the need for users to understand the intricacies of data retrieval. The goal is to establish global principles and empower regions such as AD, EMEA, APAC, and Tokyo to adopt a federated approach to delivering these capabilities.
The vision and concept for EMEA have been accepted, and a plan is being developed to establish the foundational capabilities of this platform. These capabilities include Data Domain definition, Logical Data Models, an Integration Layer, a Distribution Mechanism, and an Analytic Framework. Efforts are underway to define a delivery framework that involves collaboration between the IT and Data Office across regions like AD, APAC, and the Head Office in Tokyo.
This role reports to Lead Enterprise Data Modeler to support the Enterprise Data modelling which is part of the Data architecture function within Data Office. It involves working closely with the IT and Data Office teams in EMEA, AD, and globally.

Position Description
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- Business engagement and Analysis: Work with Data office SMEs and Business stakeholders to assess business processes and structures. Responsible to identify the similarities of data across different applications for similar data concepts and document the findings.
- Data Organisation and Structure: Design conceptual and logical data models to organise and structure data in a meaningful manner. Define relationships between different data entities, attributes, and their interdependencies, providing a clear representation of the data's inherent structure.
- Data Understanding and Communication: Use the data model as a common language between business stakeholders, data professionals, and IT teams. Provide a visual representation of how data elements relate to each other, allowing stakeholders to understand and discuss data requirements, definitions, and rules. With a clear and shared understanding of the data model, teams can collaborate effectively, aligning business needs with data and in turn its implementation.
- Data Governance and Compliance: Present Models in Governance forums for approval. Ensure that the model is controlled, and decisions are captured through the forum. Work with the other areas of the bank to standardised where possible. Represent the EMEA Division ensuring that our idea, needs and requirement are incorporated. To champion the use of the data model in strategic initiatives like ECB, BCBS239, CLM, Data Hub etc.

Supporting cross functional working with the Technology Department and our Americas Division where the technology its developed.
- Generally working with global teams to bring alignment where possible
- Alignment with Tokyo Head office and Americas on Deliverables
Skills and Experience
Essential experience:
- Development of conceptual, logical Data Models
- Use Modelling Tools (like Erwin, ER studio, IDA etc)
- Manage changes, iterations of model and release them
- Develop Entity relationship, hierarchical, dimensional data models etc
- Practically use these models to support
- Data Governance
- Data Quality
- Data Analytics
- Data Security and Handling
- IT delivery
- Banking or financial Services knowledge including Investment banking
- Industry standards and models for Banking and Financial Services like (BIAN, DPM, IBM BFMDW, FSLDM, BIRD etc)
Desirable:
- Mechanism to integrate Data Models and Data governance tooling (Collibra etc)
- Physical data modelling concepts or experience
- Ability to use Microsoft office, JIRA or Service Now and other Project Management tools
