Role Summary

The Director of Data Migration & Transition is a critical role as we advance our data capabilities in EMEA.  This experienced individual will work with IT and programme teams, leveraging their knowledge and expertise, to drive the delivery of all data migration activities.

 

The role will ensure fit-for-purpose migration services are delivered and will lead the charge on defining migration strategy, providing new core capabilities and new tools. The role requires an ability to educate and convince stakeholders at all levels across the organisation on the essential nature of good data migration, as well as a clear understanding and articulation of any dependencies upon other workstreams.

 

The role will primarily work with our IT, Data and Programme Office functions to deliver:

  • An agreed Data Migration approach for data migrations across a range of programme and project deliveries.
  • Management of dependencies with regards to data quality, both before migrations and afterwards.
  • Collaboration with IT to detail and build the scripts/ tools required to deliver migrations. This includes any monitoring and quality assurance scripts to provide confidence migrations will be successful.
  • Deliver new migration tools and their use to improve efficiency and effectiveness of our data migrations.

We are driving data-led transformation through the bank, and it is a great opportunity to join us on this exciting journey. 

Since inception, the EMEA Data Office has grown to a team with permanent headcount of approximately 40 permanent staff and a total team size of c120 people including contractors and consultants engaged on project work. There is an ambition to grow further over the next 1-2 years.

 

The team includes a mixture of permanent and contract resources, with deep expertise in data migration. There are plans to increase the size of the team in the coming year.

  • Leading the design and definition of the Data Migration strategy and creating an integrated relationship with the IT teams that will help deliver in support of the strategy
  • Tech Authoring of documents that describe the migration process developed
  • Creating an integrated relationship with the IT teams that will help build and test the technology to support the migration approach
  • Work with operations teams to design, develop and approve setup of reference/ static data for testing and go-live across programmes and projects
  • Working with delivery teams and business stakeholders to ensure data quality is at the required level before migration
  • Coordinate with business process stakeholders to ensure that the business context and impacts are considered

Position Description

Essential:

  • Experience leading a team in the delivery of data migration projects or programmes
  • Experience of delivering a new data migration tool suite and developing new monitoring and reporting to provide the relevant levels of assurance
  • Expertise in cleansing existing data and creating pipelines to move data to new platforms, collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify, scope and develop migration solutions
  • A creative approach to problem-solving and solution scoping
  • Highly effective written and verbal communication skills, with skills in writing board and committee submissions and the ability describe technical solutions to non-technical colleagues
  • A good understanding of, and experience applying, project management principles to data migration deliveries
  • Strong data skills and be adept at querying large datasets, as well as familiar with ETL concepts and tools such as Alteryx

 

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of data related regulatory requirements
  • Knowledge of emerging trends and issues within the data landscape
  • Experience working in regulated frameworks, ideally financial services
