The role balances regulatory compliance with enabling responsible data use, influencing stakeholders across business, IT, Legal, and Compliance to embed effective governance practices.
Key Essentials of the Role
- Provide subject matter expertise on data privacy, records management, and data classification across EMEA.
- Lead and influence cross-functional initiatives, including IG strategy implementation, policy development, and key governance frameworks (e.g. Information Asset Register).
- Enable compliant data use by embedding controls, advising on risk assessments, and supporting incident response and regulatory obligations.
Candidate Requirements
- Extensive experience in data privacy and records management regulations within complex, multinational environments.
- Proven ability to design and implement governance frameworks, policies, and standards with a pragmatic, risk-based approach.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence, challenge, and drive change across senior audiences.
Business Area
Established over two years ago, the EMEA Data Office is tasked with enhancing the bank’s data management capabilities across all EMEA entities. Initially focused on foundational governance, such as Data Architecture, Data Management, and Data Quality, the office is now evolving to unlock the full potential of data for improved business outcomes.
The Information Governance Lead must balance the need to protect the bank with enabling responsible data use. Controls should be designed to support innovation, not hinder it. This role is central to the bank’s data-led transformation journey, offering a chance to contribute to meaningful change.
Position Description
The Information Governance Lead is a senior role within the EMEA Data Office, responsible for delivering subject matter expertise across data privacy, records management, and data governance. The role supports the development and execution of the Information Governance strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives while embedding robust, compliant, and practical controls across the organisation.
Working closely with business units and key functions including IT, Legal, Compliance, and Change, the role provides advisory support, leads governance initiatives, and drives the implementation of policies, frameworks, and processes. It balances regulatory compliance with enabling responsible data use, influencing stakeholders and promoting a strong culture of information governance across EMEA.
The role also plays a key part in reviewing privacy risk assessments, maintaining governance artefacts such as the Information Asset Register, supporting incident response, and delivering training to improve awareness and adherence to IG standards.
