The Privacy Lead is a critical role as part of the overall Data Strategy for SMBC. This experienced individual will leverage their knowledge and expertise to lead Privacy work across all aspects of the data lifecycle and services. The role will interface with the SMEs across the organisation and work with the Director of Information Governance to deliver the IG strategy aligned to the bank’s business strategy and core Business As Usual workstreams
Aligned to the strategy and business priorities, this role will work closely with teams across the EMEA Data Office, IT and Change Management functions to shape privacy activity in EMEA. The role will support the breadth of BAU and project work across the Information Governance Team, with specific responsibilities for providing data privacy subject matter expertise. The role also requires an ability to educate and convince stakeholders at all levels on the essential nature of this role, as well as a clear understanding and articulation of the need for privacy controls and the benefits they bring.
The candidate must be willing to challenge the status quo in an empathic manner, while helping the wider Data Office team to have an ethos of openness and transparency that will help us nurture real business innovation. If you want to make a real difference, and not just in one team but across the entire bank, we would love to speak to you more.
Business Area
The EMEA Data Office was established over 4 years ago and is responsible for building out the Bank’s data management capabilities across all EMEA entities.
The Data Office initially concentrated on building foundational governance through improved Data Architecture, Data Management and Data Quality but is ultimately committed to exploiting data more effectively and innovatively across SMBC, to drive new ways of working and improved business outcomes. The IG role therefore needs to combine a desire to protect the bank but also consider how controls can be done in a way that helps rather than hinders exploitation of our data.
We have been formed to really drive data-led transformation through the bank, and it is a great opportunity to join us on this exciting journey.
