Role Summary

 

Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for a Vice President covering Real Estate Credit to join our team. 

 

This role will lead the independent assessment and oversight of real estate lending transactions, ensuring alignment with the Bank’s risk appetite and regulatory standards. Providing expert credit judgment, and constructive challenge, to balance commercial delivery with disciplined risk management. 

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Risk assessment of new transactions
  • Assessment and management of a diverse portfolio across multiple jurisdictions and sectors including: office, logistics, retail and residential, including problem assets.
  • Support other Credit teams as necessary, especially Securitisation & Lender Finance, which sit within the same vertical.

Knowldedge Skills & Experience:

  • Degree level education &/or relevant professional qualifications preferred.
  • Meaningful / relevant experience (min. 5 years) in an analytical role in a major financial institution or relevant experience with a ratings agency covering commercial real estate.
  • Good knowledge of lending structures encompassing appropriate risk factor identification, cash-flow analysis, stress-testing as well as familiarity with documentation and market trends. 

Business Area

  • Real Estate Credit is responsible for the risk evaluation of financing proposals covering investment and development financing across sectors including: offices, logistics, hotels and residential.
  • Portfolio Size: Commercial Real Estate Portfolio of c.$6bn, across c.50 Facilities
  • Target Growth Sector: 50% Growth Rate in past 2 years, and key business line for major bank Sponsors
  • Regulatory Focus: Asset Class with significant visibility at Senior Management and Regulatory level
  • Interactions: Provide support and expertise to Corporate Credit on Corporate Real Estate exposures, as well as NAV financing proposals

Position Description

  • Partner with Front Office to deliver client outcomes while maintaining strong credit quality and aligned risk appetite.
  • Apply disciplined risk assessment to new transactions.
  • Articulate risk views in line with policy, engaging with clients, advisers, and consultants to understand transactions and sectors.
  • Assess and manage a diverse portfolio across multiple jurisdictions and sectors including: office, logistics, retail and residential
  • Support other Credit teams as necessary, especially Securitisation & Lender Finance, which sit within the same vertical.
  • Proactively monitor underperforming credits, anticipating deterioration and supporting effective workout strategies.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across EMEA, Tokyo HQ, and regional credit teams on commercial and risk matters.
