Role Summary
We are looking for an experienced and technically experienced Counterparty Credit Risk IT Product Owner covering Counterparty Credit Risk (CCR), Market Risk, and Asset/Liability Management to lead the design and delivery of technology solutions that support regulatory and internal risk management across EMEA. The role requires a deep understanding of applicable methodologies, solid Agile product ownership experience, and the ability to bridge business and technology to drive high-impact risk initiatives.
This role requires a mature Risk Projects professional who will work collaboratively with SMBC IT, Risk Management, Data Management, and other areas, and play an active delivery role within EMEA.
Business Area
The EMEA Risk Technology team is part of the wider Cross-Product Platforms IT function under EMEA CIO. The key stakeholders of the Risk Technology team are EMEA Risk Managers (2nd Line of Defence), operational risk teams.
Position Description
This position is for an experienced IT Product Owner to work in the SMBC EMEA Risk Management domain with a focus on Counterparty Credit Risk (CCR), Market Risk, and Asset/Liability Management. The applicant will:
- Own the product vision and strategic roadmap
- Support end-to-end project lifecycle from initiation through to implementation focusing on credit risk systems, controls, and data.
- Interpret business requirements, develop and prioritise product backlog items (epics/user stories and clear acceptance criteria) based on business value, risk impact, and technical feasibility.
- Define Credit and Credit Risk solution delivery business requirements through current state, future state and gap analyses.
- Perform data mapping and impact assessments, to inform solution design and project planning.
- Represent and engage business stakeholders in Scrum ceremonies and acting as a liaison between credit/credit risk and
- Partner with technology teams to ensure timely delivery and release of product features following and Agile principles.
- Present product updates, roadmaps, and demos to risk governance forums, program leadership, and other stakeholders.
- Lead UAT coordination and delivery of IT change into operational risk functions.
This role requires a mature Risk Technology professional who will work collaboratively with SMBC IT, Risk Management, Data Management, and others areas, and play an active delivery role within EMEA Cross-Product Platforms Technology team.
Skills and Experience:
- Deep understanding of counterparty credit, market risk, and Asset/Liability Management frameworks and tooling
- Strong Agile methodology knowledge (e.g. Scrum/Kanban)
- Ability to translate complex credit and credit risk requirements into user-centric solutions
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills,
- Proficient in Jira, Confluence or DevOps tools
- Judgement and Decision Making
- Familiarity with Credit and Credit Risk platforms.
- Analytical mindset
- Degree preferred
- Certified Scrum Product Owner or other Agile certification preferred
- FRM or other relevant certifications preferred.
- Proactive team player with a can-do attitude.
