Role Summary

Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for a VP in EMEA Tax to join our team. 

  • Assist in implementing and maintaining a EMEA Pillar 2 reporting and compliance framework.
  • Support the UK Head of Tax on advisory matters relating to Front Office and Group Transactions.
  • Manage the optimisation of SMBC Group’s UK Bank Levy position and the compliance obligations.
  • Assist in transfer pricing compliance.
  • Assist in corporation tax compliance and reporting for some of the UK group companies.
  • Assist in process optimisation, simplification and automation.

Business Area

This is a replacement role within the Financial Control team and has responsibility for UK Tax compliance and advisory.

Position Description

  • Design and implement a Pillar 2 reporting and compliance framework for the EMEA SMFG group.  This will involve working with EMEA Finance and Head Office colleagues and external advisors.  The role holder will also be responsible for maintaining and refreshing the framework in response to regulatory and organisational changes.   
  • Supporting the UK Head of Tax on advisory matters in relation to Front Office and Group Transactions, this includes, new products, business reorganisations, etc.
  • Manage the optimisation of the SMBC Group’s UK Bank Levy position and the compliance obligations, including monitoring the Group’s Bank Levy profile, monitoring regulatory changes, etc. 
  • Assist in transfer pricing compliance, this will include working with SMBC Americas Division and external advisors on the Derivatives Products Group Advance Pricing Agreement.
  • Assist in the corporation tax compliance, IFRS and JGAAP reporting for some of the UK group companies.
  • Drive process efficiency within the team, identify opportunities for automation and system enhancements and drive delivery.
  • Keep up to date with tax regulations and ensure that any changes are communicated to the relevant stakeholders.

Relevant Skills / Experience:

  • Proven post-qualification experience in all aspects of tax compliance and advisory, preferably Banking Taxation.
  • Experience of tax reporting for statutory accounts purposes and group reporting.
  • Fully Qualified Accountant (ACA or ACCA) or equivalent.
  • Strong organisational skills and time management skills
  • Good numerical and analytical skills
  • Robust and clear communication style
  • Good team player
  • Good problem solving skills
