Role Summary
The Vice President (VP) will support the MD in building and expanding the EMEA Lender Finance business. The role focuses on origination, structuring, execution, and ongoing portfolio management of facilities provided to private credit and loan funds.
The VP will:
- Work closely with the MD to execute the EMEA Lender Finance strategy.
- Support the full deal lifecycle from origination to closing, including modelling, credit analysis, committee materials, documentation, and internal coordination.
- Act as a day-to-day point of contact for clients at the working and mid‑senior levels.
- Coordinate with adjacent SMBC teams such as SPF, Loan Distribution, LevFin, Fund Finance, NAV, Coverage, Legal, Credit, OAD, Treasury, and global counterparts (especially the US Lender Finance team).
- Help build processes, templates, and frameworks suitable for EMEA Lender Finance transactions.
- Assist in the expansion of the team and support junior resource development as the business grows.
This role requires the ability to operate with moderate independence, applying strong technical, analytical, and execution skills in a dynamic and fast-growing product area.
Business Area
Lender Finance is a well-established and successful business in the US with over 15 years of history and ~$15bn in outstanding commitments. Many clients are global asset managers who expect EMEA capabilities.
As SMBC expands the Lender Finance platform into Europe, the VP will play a critical execution-focused role, leveraging:
- The existing US Lender Finance frameworks.
- EMEA experience in adjacent businesses (LevFin, Fund Finance, Sponsors Coverage, Infrastructure, etc.).
- SMBC’s global network across New York, Tokyo, and other hubs.
This is an opportunity to help build a new strategic business line in EMEA from the early stages.
