Role Summary

Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for a Compliance Associate for our Compliance Department to join our team. 

Reporting to the Head of Compliance Education within Central Compliance, this role will be responsible for supporting the delivery of compliance education and communications across SMBC Group entities in EMEA. This includes preparation of MI, analysing data and identifying training trends, identifying ways to streamline and automate processes and supporting training and communications initiatives for SMBC Group in EMEA, including management of the Compliance microsite. The role will also assist in helping Central Compliance in project work and other generic compliance tasks.  

The role requires:

  • Data Analysis & MI Reporting: Ability to produce and interpret compliance data using Excel and Power BI.
  • Understanding of Regulatory Context & Communication Support: Ability to interpret internal compliance policies and external regulatory news, and assist in crafting clear, relevant internal communications for staff across the business.
  • Process & Systems Improvement: Ability to identify inefficiencies and support automation initiatives using tools like Power Automate. 

The successful candidate will have:

  • Strong Data & Automation Skills, being proficient in analyzing compliance data and producing MI reports using Excel and Power BI, with experience in Power Automate to streamline workflows and support process improvements.

  • Clear Communication & Stakeholder Engagement skills and be confident in liaising with staff at all levels, responding to compliance queries, and supporting training communications effectively.

  • Attention to Detail & Organisation skills, being highly organised with a strong focus on accuracy, capable of managing microsite content, scheduling meetings, and supporting audit and monitoring tasks.

Business Area

The Compliance Education team sits within Central Compliance and plays a key role in promoting regulatory awareness and embedding a strong compliance culture across SMBC Group entities in the EMEA region. The team is responsible for delivering training, internal communications, and Management Information (MI) reporting that supports the firm’s regulatory obligations and conduct standards. Working closely with stakeholders across Compliance, Financial Crime, and the wider business, the team ensures that staff are informed, engaged, and equipped to meet compliance expectations through clear guidance, timely updates, and effective educational initiatives.

Position Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and produce Management Information (MI) reports for compliance and conduct-related metrics using Excel and Power BI.
  • Assist in crafting internal communications based on internal policies and external regulatory news, ensuring relevance and clarity.
  • Support the delivery of compliance training and communications to SMBC BI and other SMBC Group entities under Service Level Agreements.
  • Manage and maintain the Compliance microsite on SharePoint, ensuring content is up-to-date and accessible.
  • Collaborate with Compliance and Financial Crime teams across EMEA to produce key MI and support cross-functional initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and work to implement automation using tools like Power Automate.
  • Contribute to ad hoc compliance projects and transformation initiatives.
  • Support the Compliance Monitoring Programme (CMP) and audit-related tasks.
  • Assist in scheduling and minute-taking for team meetings and Compliance Education approval committees.
  • Liaise with staff across all levels to respond to general compliance queries.
