Role Summary

 

Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for an AVP Compliance and Risk Officer to join our team. 

 

  • Responsible for the completion of KYC/ABC onboardings and periodic reviews, advising front office (sales) staff on current and new transactions as well as being the main point of contact for ABC/KYC-related queries from staff members, offering direction and guidance on compliance-related matters.
  • Supports the Head of LF Compliance to evaluate new compliance and risk requirements and report on the implementation of and improvements to new policies and procedures being developed by the Bank and how they are applicable to and are to be adopted by LF.

Business Area

SMBC Leasing (UK) Limited (“LUFK”) has been active in leasing finance including shareholder loans for more than 30 years and more recently in junior and mezzanine debt structures.

LFUK’s experienced team is based in London and has extensive knowledge and can provide and arrange leases and other asset-based financing products. The team utilises its expertise and awareness of all of the latest market developments via the management of its diverse asset portfolio. The team’s geographic focus is in the UK and EU.

Products are deployed across a wide range of assets: transport (rail, ports, airports etc.), equipment (rolling stock, ships, trucks, cranes etc.), energy (renewable and conventional), telecoms (data centres and telecom infrastructure), IT assets (both hardware and software) and real estate (CRE & student accommodations).

Position Description

  • This person is one of a team of three who together act as the compliance function of LF’s EMEA business. LF’s compliance team are responsible for ensuring that LF and its business is, at all times, in alignment with both internal as well as external compliance and risk policies and frameworks and that processes and procedures are followed and carried out in a diligent and timely manner.
  • This person is the functional reporting line for junior members of the team and is responsible for their training and mentoring.
  • Responsible for the completion of KYC/ABC onboardings and periodic reviews, advising front office (sales) staff on current and new transactions as well as being the main point of contact for ABC/KYC-related queries from staff members, offering direction and guidance on compliance-related matters.
  • Accountable for all “approval stage” compliance-related work in Leaf (LF’s transaction management software) including the approval of supplier invoices, transaction closing packs and third-party records.
  • Carries out some of Third Party Risk Assessment (TPRM)-related work including outsourcing determinations.
  • Responsible for performing quarterly covenants monitoring in relation to all leasing transactions.
  • Develops and maintains all KYC user / process manuals for LF to build more streamlined reporting systems and enhance efficiency.
  • Responsible for ensuring that data is stored, maintained and reported in accordance with GDPR and that all applicable agreements, licences, registrations and any other GDPR related requirements are kept up-to-date and report any issues to LF management.
  • Supports the Head of LF Compliance in acting as a link between SMBC BI functions and LF EMEA management to promote working relationships and facilitate information flow.
  • Assists the Head of LF Compliance in the preparation of compliance/risk-related reports to LF board and LF management as well as SMBC Tokyo.
  • Deputises for the Head of LF Compliance at high-level financial crime meetings with CPD senior management to report on Leasing activities.
  • Attends all inter-departmental compliance-related meetings as deemed appropriate to the role by the Head of LF Compliance as LF representative to keep the business up-to-date with all matters that could affect compliance and adjustments in Bank’s policies and procedures.
  • Liaises with relevant SMBC BI departments on all compliance system and project roll-outs to ensure LF’s needs are being fully-incorporated and together with the Head of LF Compliance attends all meetings regarding mandatory employee training to ensure the correct modules are completed by LF staff.
