Role Summary

Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for a Collateral and Settlements Associate for our Derivative Operations team to join our team. 

The role will provide support to the daily activities of the Collateral Management and Settlements functions of the Derivative Operations space- ensuring margin calls are actioned in an accurate and timely manner, portfolio reconciliation activity completed and margin/derivative trade cash flows are settled on time. 

Candidate would require a can-do attitude and a willingness to learn all facets of Collateral Management and Derivative Settlements

Candidate should have entry level experience of either Collateral Management across a Repo/OTC background or derivative settlement flow- ideally entry level experience in both fields.

Business Area

This role sits within the Derivative Operations section, whose responsibilities include Collateral Management, Confirmations and Settlement of derivative and FX trades

Position Description

Counterparty Onboarding & Margining

  • Support the operational onboarding of new GMRA/CSA counterparties, ensuring all margining processes are in place.
  • Execute daily margin calls, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in line with contractual terms.
  • Maintain records of margin movements and ensure proper documentation is retained for audit and compliance purposes.

Reconciliation & TriOptima Management

  • Perform manual and automated reconciliations of margin and collateral positions, including use of TriOptima where applicable.
  • Investigate and resolve breaks or discrepancies in margin and collateral data.
  • Ensure reconciliations are completed within agreed timelines and escalate unresolved items appropriately.

Derivative Settlements

  • Reconcile and settle derivative trade cash flows and associated CSA/GMRA margin payments
  • Monitor settlement status and ensure timely resolution of any fails or mismatches.
  • Liaise with internal teams and external parties to resolve interest-related queries.

Payments Processing

  • Ensure all payments are executed accurately and within cut-off times.
  • Maintain strong controls around payment approvals and confirmations.

Inbox & Query Management

  • Manage a high volume of emails and queries from new and existing GMRA and ISDA counterparties.
  • Prioritise and respond to queries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Escalate complex or high-risk issues to appropriate stakeholders.

Risk & Control

  • Adhere to internal control frameworks and contribute to a strong risk culture.
  • Identify process gaps or inefficiencies and propose improvements.
  • Support audit and compliance reviews by providing required documentation and explanations.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work closely with Legal, Risk, Treasury, and Front Office teams to support ISDA/GMRA activity
  • Build strong relationships with external counterparties to ensure smooth operational flows.
  • Provide regular updates to management on volumes, issues, and performance metrics.
