Role Summary

Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for a Business Analyst - Credit Risk for our Credit Department to join our team. 

Summary of Role: Armed with a deep understanding of SMBC's Credit Risk Management framework, this role partners with global credit departments to revolutionize the status quo, creating a streamlined and effective market-standard operating model. Harness your technical and analytical prowess to craft innovative solutions and ensure the seamless integration of new processes.

Essentials of the Role:

  1. Assist in designing a new Target Operating Model (TOM) by conducting thorough business and gap analysis to enhance credit risk processes and reporting requirements.
  2. Conduct detailed data analysis efforts to assess and enhance data quality and suitability. Implement the solution with IT developer or data team.
  3. Act as a pivotal liaison between business and software development teams, ensuring innovative solutions align with strategic goals and are seamlessly integrated.

Candidate Requirements:

  1. Proficient in data manipulation and analysis tools such as SQL and Alteryx.
  2. Experience in implementing wholesale credit risk systems and complying with EBA/ECB regulatory requirements.
  3. Enjoys building up small changes to contribute to the big picture.

Business Area

Credit Department is the 2nd line of defense function in EMEA.

  • Overseeing credit risk-taking activities by 1. reviewing and challenging 1LoD credit applications, and 2. providing governance control  in line with the Bank’s Credit Risk Policy and Guidelines. 
  • Setting new frameworks, policies, and procedures in response to regulatory or business requirements, together with other 2LoD functions in EMEA.
  • Performing portfolio reviews and critically assessing the existing controls to improve operational soundness.

Position Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Learn and understand SMBC's Credit Risk Management framework, policies, guidelines, and supporting IT systems.
  • Assist in analyzing current credit risk processes, identifying gaps, and defining future state processes and reporting requirements with credit departments across EMEA and other global SMBC credit risk functions. 
  • Perform data analysis to understand data sources, quality, suitability, and enhancement needs.
  • Use technical and analytical skills to support the project team in developing solutions to challenging problems.
  • Act as a liaison between business and software development teams to ensure solutions align with business goals.
  • Work with business stakeholders to integrate new solutions into their operations, providing initial guidance and support.
  • Assist the project manager and product owner in progress reporting and RAID management.

Qualifications:

  • Proficient in data manipulation and analysis tools such as SQL and Alteryx.
  • Experience in implementing wholesale credit risk systems and complying with EBA/ECB regulatory requirements.
  • Familiar with EBA Guidelines, especially Loan Origination and Monitoring, Non-Performing Loans (NPL), Default Definition, Unlikely to Pay (UTP), and Leveraged Transactions.
  • Basic understanding of corporate risk analysis and/or asset-backed lending risk assessment.
  • Proficiency in macro or programming languages (VBA, Python, R, etc.) is a plus.
  • Curiosity, collaboration, excellent communication skills, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to distill and communicate ideas effectively.
